I would like to buy a pre phono for my Naim system, clearly the first one in consideration is the stageline; but is it really worth it or can you find better at that price? Thank you
What is your turntable, cartridge ?
Do you have a Naim pre?
Not really good in my experience with Rega P3/Exact into 202/HC and 552. The Nait50 pre phono seems much better sorted to my years
I have a 100uV/560 ohm phono card and a Denon DL-103r
In my experience I have found that the earthy sounding Stageline is not the best match with the old Rega Elys and Exact carts, which need something a bit brighter.
Thank you, in fact I have a lot of doubts about the stageline.
I hope that stageline it’s a very bad pre phono.
It’s a very good phono stage, particularly in MM form, but does respond most favourably to power supply upgrades and does also need a bright and lively cartridge to best balance its meaty/earthy nature.
What is the rest of the system?
My Naim pre is the Nac 72
In which case forget the Stageline. Just use some NA323 cards, or else move to a Prefix and Hicap.
Actually mine Is quite old, something like ’ 05/06 build IIRC albeit serviced recently
Turntable Well Tempered Classic
Naim Nac 72
Naim Hicap
Naim 250 Chrome
Naim CD5Xs
Naim Flatcap Xs
Had these into nac 72 with Sondek with MC cart, then 522 into Nait 3 with Rega Elys and either combos were really great
My opinion is that Naim phono cards have the sound too closed.
That’ s odd, my impression was quite the opposite
The phono Naim cards are sad
There’s a recent thread « Denon MC cartridge « still running. You may get some ideas there.
I’m getting a sense of deja vu here…
I have another system in the same environment and it’s a whole different music; and what a music !!!
Just a bit off topic, early this year, i bought a Sondek/kore/Akito/Adikt second gen Lingo. It was so underwhelming that i consigned It at my other Naim dealer and Is still waiting to be " disposed"
