Thinking of trading an Exposure 3010 Integrated towards a 2nd hand Naim Supernait 3.Only problem is I have the Exposure biamped with a Schiit Vidar Power Amp that obviously doesn’t use DIN connectors. Was wondering if I purchased a DIN to RCA interconnect would I be able to biamp the Schiit Power Amp with the Supernait?
Or use the l&r sub out sockets, both rca.
The obvious question is why you’d want to do this, have you listened to the supernait by itself?
You know BEFORE I purchased the Exposure I purchased a Naim XS3 Integrated and used the sub outs to biamp with the Schiit Vidar Power Amp.It did NOT work and caused all sorts of problems with the Naim integrated. So I figure IF there is a way to biamp a Naim Integrated with a NON Naim power amp it’s ONLY via the DIN Biamp output on the Naim AND using a DIN to RCA cable to the Schiit (or other RCA only) power amp.I am just trying to confirm this before trying to trade in the Exposure for the Naim.
The gain of Naim classic series power amps is 29dB, I don’t see it quoted for the supernait power section but it’s probably the same if Naim fit a biamp out DIN socket. The Schiit has 20dB of gain so probably not a good match regardless of the cables.
The real question is why do you want to continue to use the vidar? What is that driving that can’t be done by the exposure/nait?
Exposure make very good amplifiers, eg why not try the xm7 pre and a pair of xm9 mono blocks.
If it didn’t work with the xs then it won’t work with the sn. The output of the din and rca sockets is the same.
I think it would help if you were to explain exactly how you wired everything up - I can see no reason why it wouldn’t ‘work’. Sound awful, maybe. Not work, no.
Which speakers are you using? Not many benefit from biamping. As has been said above, Naim and Schitt amplifiers have different levels of gain, which means that the two halves of the crossover will get different levels signal. Also, Naim and Schitt sound different, so the results will be very unpredictable. Basically it’s not a good idea, and that applies also to using Schitt with Exposure. Stick with exposure or swap to Naim, and if you want to biamp then add an Exposure or Naim power amp.
Got a reply from the guy who sold me my X2 cd player he uses a DIN to XLR to biamp with a Naim Power amp and it works just fine
I’m sure it does. But it might work even finer with a single better power amp instead of biamping; nor can you extrapolate from his usage to yours unless you are using identical kit.
What was the question again?
