Naim Supernait 3 review

While I 100% agree with you I’ve gotta admit the first week or so with the XPS-DR I was having some serious buyers remorse. It was an improvement but not what I was expecting. After that, the magic started to happen.

Snare drums have Power Supplies ?

Yes. When I see someone saying a PS did not improve the sonics of the equipment they attach it to I assume something is broken in their system.

What exactly does ‘something is broken’ mean? Why can’t people simply prefer things without an additional power supply?

It means something is not right if they don’t notice an improvement. I could go back to listening to a bare 272 but it would be at the expense of SQ. Like any other source component or amp without a PS.

Agree much with HH… think the word “broken” is too harsh just because there isn’t an additional power supply.

When we stop chasing boxes for the sake of things, some sanity returns when we just sit down and listen to the music for what it is. I love upgrades - who doesn’t - but it shouldn’t come at the expense of happiness and contentment. A fine line for upgraditis.

In hindsight, I’d always wanted the “better” boxes sometimes at the expense of other things in life, including family - though they were never wanting but which I’m hardly proud of - my desires in hi fi were not balanced - just plain wrong - as there are and will always be other more pressing priorities in life.

Moral - never listen to a Naim power supply unless in the market to spend. :upside_down_face:

Yes i agree here, pretty much where i’m at now with my current system. Those who keep on changing things around seem not content…

I think with some people it just becomes an obsession and because there is an upgrade path they just have to climb it. The forum can have a big impact on that and I’m still on it now !

That describes me from 2000 to 2007 from olive cdx/ xps/ 82/ hi/ 250 to cd555/552/500.

I sold my 500 when my old banger failed a MOT out of the blue and I needed funds for a good second hand car, after taking voluntary redundancy and two years later went the 552 and on it went. No real hardship . Then a property purchase followed , so out went the Rega Isis/Osiris.

Second time around fortunately I’ve got it under control with my relatively modest system by Naim standards ( nd5xs2/ core/ sn3/ kudos c20).

That said my source could one day need an upgrade. But if I don’t fine, no problem at all.

It’s a lot of money for 20 % changes to the sound quality or so, if you keep upgrading all the time.

I’ m available for recovering Naimoholic lectures should anyone need one!!

Thank you kind sirs.

The music blows my mind first and foremost, but the system definitely extracts the most out of it.

Thanks for sharing HH.

There is a nice interview/podcast with Steve Sells on the same website as the review. Pretty bad sound for an audiophile site, though. :grinning:
