Turn off amp. Set volume to zero and pull off volume knob carefully. Very very carefully insert the tip of a screwdriver into the slit/gap at the end of the pin shown here. Widen it just a little using very slight force. The volume knob should then stay on. Make sure it is positioned correctly- ie the light around 7 -8 o’clock before permanently clicking it into place.

Whilst James’ method will work, you can end up bending just one half of the shaft. This results in a very obvious eccentric rotation when the knob is refitted. This can be quite tricky to correct.
