I think it might been thunderstorm nearby, i don’t know yet what is broken and what caused whole thing. There was just that big POP!
I truly like SN3, will see what is my future amp. It might be SN3, who knows.

Not heard Accuphase but did move from Naim to Luxman few yrs ago after 20+yrs of Naim. Had a 282/250dr which was great but at times felt like it was almost shouting. The Luxman 509x I replaced it with is deeply musical and has a calm quality without ever sounding dull. For me it’s also dispelled the hype that only Naim delivers PraT. The build quality is much higher than Naim, and less fussy. Even the remote is much nicer. Much as I love Naim, I had my own ‘moment’ when my CD5XS literally went up in smoke a few yrs ago. Fortunately we were at home at the time and were able to unplug it. Having said all that, I don’t think there’s much that beats the SN3 at the price. In some ways, I actually preferred its sound to the more brittle 282.
Not at the price and not at double the price. It just need a real high level source certainly not 5xs even the cdx2 is not good enugh to fulfill its potential. As i see it the SN3 is a positive surprise accsident in the NAIM world, all you need is to partner it with a super quality source.
It’s good that you mentioned Luxman in this thread as I too own one which is the 590AXII. Coincidentally I also have the 282/250DR and still have it. Everything that has been said about the differences between the Naim and Luxman, I agree. Believe it or not after more than 5 years with both amps I am still not done with the comparison, and I won’t elaborate on that here in this thread. The nuance and detail with the Luxman are on a higher level, and although I’m still trying to get the Naim to achieve the same level of refinement as the Luxman I have to accept that they are different and it’s all good. Obviously I can’t get a Naim to sound like a Luxman and vice versa. ![]()
I’ve never been able to choose between my 282/250dr setup and my Luxman setup either.
But the truth is, the Naim has been powered off for 8 months and the Luxman hasn’t.
I will also look into Pass Labs if liking Accuphase and Luxman.
I have now little listened with my old Nait 5Si and difference to SN3 is just huge. There’s no going back to cheaper Naims, that’s for sure. ![]()
Just sent my SN3 and HiCap DR to the Finnish importer, who then sends them over to Poland where they do cost estimate for maintenance for the insurance company. This could take time.
Thunder and lightning!
