Hi, I own a uniti which has been upgraded and I was able to stream hi fi res files on todal, upnp, etc. The network component is not working well, as the app does not often find the uniti or streaming stops suddenly, even with a wired network connection. Sometimes when there is a power cut then the uniti keeps resetting as the network adapter fails, but eventually the uniti can play. I have two options, send it to repair (this will be the third time!), or use a raspberry pi5 with a digital output (digi2 pro) to use the naim’s DAC and amplifier.
Would you recommend repairing the unit with a cost around ÂŁ500? Will the rpi5 work well in this setting? I do not want to upgrade as this will be a big investment for the naim nova.
Hi, how sure are you that this is a hardware fault in the Uniti? It sounds to me as if it could be a network discovery or similar issue which may be resolved by changing your network settings or configuration, although without knowing a bit more this is largely guesswork.
If there is a hardware fault in the Uniti, you should talk to Naim about whether spares are still available as some components are no longer obtainable.
What exactly is the “network adapter” you refer to?
I recently moved home and both in the old house and the new house I have the same issues with different ISPs. There is a message on the uniti which says “input initialising ” or “error” when streaming. It seems to be a hardware issue…
I have a first gen Uniti and as David Hendon says input initialising is a quite normal.
ÂŁ500 seems a lot for the repair for a streamer which is becoming more and more obsolete.
If you can live without the CD player I’d recommend selling it as it is and putting the money towards a new or even second hand Atom.
I just noticed the mesh system in my new home is not helping… the uniti is connected via ethernet cable to one mesh node (linkesys) but if I try to use the naim app closer to another mesh, I will not see the naim uniti.
Even so, I can always see a Naim Mu-so I have in the house. Any ideas on how to set this up? Also, it seems the node does not have a lot of wifi strength…
