Naim Uniti Atom HE warm on touch

I have been using my Naim Uniti Atom Headphone Edition for just over two weeks. I notice one thing: even when it is switched off, but plugged in, if I put my hand over the unit I notice that it is quite warm. This even when I haven’t used it for hours. Is this normal?

Thanks!

Yes, when it’s in standby some warmth is quite normal, more so if server mode is enabled.

Depends what you mean by off. There’s either ‘deep sleep’ mode (press and hold the power button) or ‘network standby’ mode (just push the button).

In deep sleep mode the unit should be cold.
In network standby there is normally only a tiny switching power supply running which shouldn’t be generating any significant amount of heat.
If you have a USB drive attached, or if you turn on Server mode in System Settings, this overrides network standby mode and keeps the main power supply running, so you would expect a little more warmth.

Thank you! I wasn’t aware of the ‘Deep Sleep’ mode, apparently I was in ‘network standby’ mode without knowing it, which is why the unit remained a little warm (and with a slight hum). Now, in deep sleep, it is cool. Thanks again for the clarification!
