Naim units does not show up in App - but network is fine

Hi,
I have this strange problem that my Naim app Focal & Naim (iPhone) cannot find my SuperUniti and UnitiCute …

The only way is to manually set IP addresses on the units and then manually connect in the app … but it all worked fine earlier. Then something happened on the network.

When I run DHCP on the units I can’t find them in the app …

Can anyone shed some light on the issue … ?

On my network scanner I can only find local IP addreses >100 (192.168.0.xxx) , but there is equipment on the network with addresses <100 that work fine and can be accessed directly in the browser …

Any network experts around … ?

Have you tried turning it all off, restarting your router and then turning the Naim products on again?

I have restarted all devices, but not in a particular sequence, which I know may sometimes make a difference …

The important thing is to turn it all off, turn the router on, wait until it has fully restarted, then you turn on the two Naim units. You could also stop (ie swipe away) the Naim app and then restart that, but not until the Naim units have restarted.

The idea is to give everything good solid IP addresses with all services in the router working.

If you have a separate switch, start that up after the router is reconnected.

That sounds like you may have a Subnetmask that restricts the IP address range for that network to less than 255 devices. If it is just the iPhone with issues, then assuming you have tried restarting the iPhone, I would suggest going to Wifi Settings, click on the (i) then select “Forget this network”, then reconnect again to your WiFi. Obviously have the WiFi password handy first.

I think I found the culprit …
My WiFI mesh network crashed earlier and I had to “tear it apart” and redefine everything - just before going on holiday for 2 weeks … then came home and trouble started …

I didn’t pay attention to the little detail that all allocated IP adresses on the WiFi network had this structure xxx.xxx.68.xxx … which is wrong … should be xxx.xxx.0.xxx … so, my WiFi mesh network acts as a 2nd router behind the primary router and allocates its own IP adresses in its own IP range … The WiFi mesh network should be pass-through … The Naim units are cabled before the mesh network and get IP adresses from the primary router xxx.xxx.0.xxx and my iPhone with the Naim App is on the 2nd network … So, actually nothing to do with Naim units …

What is very strange is that my son has a newer iPhone (13 Pro vs. my 11 Pro) and he has no problem controlling the Naim units through the mesh network … very strange.

Will let you know as soon as I have changed the configuration …

Everything works fine again - thank you for your inputs, which led me to find the problem …

It’s an increasingly common problem to find that you are inadvertently running a second DHCP server on your home network. Mesh networks are often the cause, although any network extenders can have this effect. The solution is to disable additional DHCP servers so that you are only running one. Unfortunately some devices do not permit you to do this, and they should generally be avoided.
