Naim Update and Tidal Max

I have updated the Focal/Naim app and selected MAX in the settings for TIDAL. In contrast to what happens in the Tidal app, there is no choice of version (HIGH vs. MAX). Does that mean the App chooses MAX whenever it’s available? That would be great, as the multiple versions in the Tidal app is a little tiresome. I just want to make sure the MAX version is chosen anytime it’s available.

Thanks for any answer,

JP

What Naim streamer are you controlling with the Focal/Naim app?

My streamer is a NDX2.

In the 7.1 app update the Tidal settings have moved to the Services and Accounts section

As @nicnaim says above, the setting you are looking for has moved in the app. Nothing else has changed. You still have to choose which version to play. But the streamer will play hi res if you have max selected, whereas before the update the hi res versions wouldn’t play.

Unfortunately it doesn’t choose the high res version automatically, and nor is it easy to spot which is which without actually playing it. It would be good if there was a high res indicator on the album covers, to make life easier, but maybe it’s not possible.

How are you this morning Nigel?

I’m better sitting up, hence why I’m awake at 6.30! At least I managed six hours sleep, which is better than the previous couple of nights. I felt fine when I woke up, but then the coughing starts. And doesn’t stop! Hopefully I’ll feel much better in a couple of days. I remember last time it taking about a fortnight before I felt properly recovered.

I will be thinking of you both. Get well soon.

Yesterday I turned down a suggestion to meet a friend in London for lunch early next week because it would be a train journey there and back and a couple of hours in a restaurant well before my latest Covid jab had had time to do its stuff on my immune system.

It looks like it should be possible. I posted a reply in another thread that bubblesoft upnp has an option to show hi res indicators so there’s probably something in the Tidal metadata the Naim app could use. When the option is enabled hi res albums are clearly marked

And the MAX version of the album will be selected automatically if available, then, right? I am asking because it’s different than in the Tidal app (and would actually be great if it were). I am pretty sure it does, as the sonic difference on MAX albums is clear, but never hurts to ask.

Thanks for the update. Long time waiting and it brings my fantastic NAIM NDX2 and amplification to a new level yet.

No. It plays the version you select, low or high res.

Thanks. I’ve linked your post into the beta group and flagged it. It would be good to get the indicator working if possible. Anything to make things easier.

I’ve updated to 7.1, and now Tidal login doesn’t work. It will play a 30 second segment like in demo mode. When I login through settings it says login successful you can close this page. When close the page and go to Tidal, it opens the login page again. When I login through the settings, same thing. Tidal app, no problem so it’s not an account issue. Anyone getting this.

Sorry this is a duplicate of this issue, moderator please combine:

Yes, but nothing tells me which version is which. I know that Tidal is behind the curve on this (compared to Qobuz) in not having an icon identifying which version, but in the Tidal App, when you select an album it tells you at least the quality of the source (Max vs. High, in particular). It seems as if the Max version of an album is always the first in the list, but a more conspicuous flag than this rule of thumb (or checking both with your ears, which is a waste of time) would be nice, if possible at all.

It would be nice if Tidal (in the Naim app) had a Hi-Res indicator, besides albums that are in Hi-res.
Qobuz does it.
