I can’t believe my Naim CDX2 will NOT play certain tracks of my Van Morrison-The Essential CD.I know it’s NOT the laser as it was recently replaced with an ORIGINAL Naim unit.Has the same problems on a U.S. version of the album as well as a brand new German version.Wont play tracks after 10 on the first disc and AnY tracks on the 2nd disc. Also has the same problem playing SOME tracks of the last Spandau Ballet-40Years The Greatist Hits.Anyone else have problems with these discs?
A CD player with taste.
I used to have a Pioneer cd player early on and found at one point that newer cd’s wouldn’t play but older ones of the same material would. I never had track variation within one cd though.
Someone once brought round a Van Morrison cd and I thought it was faulty jumbled vocal sound.
But then I seen him on the telly and it was the same.
Another thing about the CDX2 -seems to have NO problem playing ANY of my burned discs (at least the ones I tried).Unlike my previous CD5X which would not play any of my burned discs.
Apparently you got the death metal version when your Naim cd player was replaced.
Sounds like a faulty disc… possibly not conforming to Red Book standard. Does the disc have the CDDA printed anywhere? It might have some sort of non standardized copy protection that puts it outside the CDDA/ Redbook spec … or simply a faulty pressing,
I know it sounds silly, but a friend used to keep his Rega Apollo on a glass base placed on the wooden shelf of his rack - Fraim like, if you will. The CDP skipped some tracks on a CD. I suggested to take the glass off and we sat the Apollo directly on the wooden shelf. No issue any more. Possibly supernatural, but worth trying. Best, M
Moving the CDP might have cleaned or freed something inside the mech that might have caused the skips. A couple of years ago cleaning the lens stopped my CDP with Philips CDM4 from skipping… as you say, worth trying!
