Hi, I have purchased a Nait 1 and the seller claims the person he bought it from said it was serviced. Is it possible to see from the pictures it the claim is correct?
Naim UK should be your first port of call surely? You have the SN?

The unit is old and the serial number on the back is not visible unfortunately…
Maybe give Darren an quick email as well
But with no serial number I’d be suspicious……like buying a car with no V5 or service book

Darran is not at Naim. He’s a Naim-approved servicer based in the North of England, the business is called Class A.

Has it been serviced? Well maybe. By naim or Class A, unlikely. Pretty sure the mains switch gets shrouded at service-a safety related modification to the original build. Plus it still has a number of caps that are long obsolete.
To answer the question get the seller to provide evidance. No evidence means it likely has not been serviced. Anyway, how does it sound?

Looks like maybe some parts were changed out, but not a proper full service (which at its age it should have). Best of luck getting it sorted!

I recall Naim did print serial number on the lower side of the main board. Maybe a small (dentist) mirror can find it ?
The serial numbers on the original NAITs can fade but under the right light you may still be able to read it (just).

I can’t tell from the photos if it has been serviced, but listen to it and see if it sounds good. If it does, then live with it for a while and perhaps later, if the sound quality degrades, send it off to Naim or Class A for servicing.
I like to see an invoice or email from Naim or Class A if an item is sold as being serviced. It also means I can pass this provenance on if I later sell it.

Perhaps, but my point was if it sounds good (no matter what servicing may do) live with it and decide what to do with it later.
True but having Nelly the nait from when she was born she’s always sounded good but the slow degradation over time isn’t noticeable until a visit to Salisbury

Personally I’d get it serviced and get some history with it so going forward you know it’s sounding right and it helps with resale.
With having no serial number I’d send it to Salisbury for factory authorisation.
I’ve just bought this lot in the last 6 months and only built it up recently as it’s all been sent away away for service and upgrades because I believe you do it once and do it properly

There’s just something about the sound of the chrome bumper gear that’s addictive.
Some enthusiasts have surmised that it has to do with the Holden and Fisher toroidal transformers installed on the Naim chrome bumper power amplifiers, which I guess is possible.

I believe the early ‘Olives’ had H&F trannies, at least for the NAIT 2s that I have had.
