Thats a silly good price (thought I’d never again said this about Naim products )
I guess I know the answer - it’s extremely picky piece of kit in terms of its requirements for the surrounding system. Majority of users will simply not unlock its potential, that’s basically the reason it appears s/h at good prices and will continue to do so.
He devalued it as if I had offered an 80s ghetto blaster… As soon as I sell it, I’ll buy an N50 - from someone else.
Has anyone compared Nait50 presentation, midrange more specifically, with the new classic series?
No - but I have not found any note worthy colouration from the N50 - there is no forwardness or strong suppression, or dominant mids exaggerating vocals. Male / female duets wonderfully render.
The deep bass/sub bass response is very good (surprisingly so) and with my RKs and is tuneful and punchy, rather than slow and resonancy. Certainly can hear a lot more down there in some of my recordings - almost could master with it.
The timing and phase/transient response seem to be on the money - that really gels with fast speakers
Perhaps the only attribute I have slightly noticed, is the mid treble feels ever so slightly attenuated in my setup, but possibly because its more evenly balanced here than my previous system or the damping I have in my room now… I quite like it - and because of the phase response doesn’t seem to affect stereo field and spatial cues - which are very good in my opinion.
I really love my Nait50 even compared with other systems i have at home, 500 included.
If the new 500 series will be like this, would be fantastic
The few days I’ve had an N50 at home with my IBLs this was amply proved…
Compared directly to my NC250 at home, with 222 - very, very similar presentation, nothing lacking in the presence, midrange, timing, detail and coherence, only difference would be at higher sound levels (if room size is big) and very low bass (but both very nicely controlled).
It is somewhat restrictive, especially with its lack of remote . I am very pleased with mine , but when I had mobility problems , I missed the remote
Could anyone who have owned the supernait 2/3 and the nap 250.2 Non DR compare the sound signature between the two? I have seem criticisms about the 250.2 on this forum and they seem pretty similar to my thoughts on the supernait 3.
Are you referring to N50 and NAP250.2?
I enjoyed my 250.2. It had bouncy organic sound that really sounded gorgeous with rock and some orchestral… I thought it went very well with the 552 and 252.
The 250 DR wasn’t my cup of tea… I felt it lost some of its organicity and enjoyment replaced with perhaps a cleaner more accurate sound.
The N50 to me has no notable colouration, and seems to be naturally enjoyable, it’s hard to describe, you can turn up the wick and it retains its composure and balance so transients retain their composure, however curiously it does seem to etch out the bounce and timing in tracks, to give that dynamic timing feel that is in much music to varying degrees.
If I am honest I notice timbral information more with the N50 than the 250.2, I am fond of duets, and the interplay and subtlety between a male and a female voice is often gorgeously rendered on the N50… in a way I didn’t quite notice previously. Also older 60s recordings often appear more balanced, where as with 552DR /250.2 they could in my opinion, slightly glare or tip into forwardness if the recording was poor. My source is the same, though my speakers are different… and I do admit the speakers may have a part to play. I previously used ATC designs, at this time I am currently using RK RED50s
Thanks for the reply but I was referring to the sn3 vs the nap250.2 non dr
its an integrated amp vs a poweramp.
You cannot compare them ideally.
FWIW I’d stay clear of 250.2 unless its cheap and fresh serviced.
Still you need a good preamp such as Nac 282 for example.
A PSU is needed too, something like a Hicap DR for example.
In total this might very well become more expensive than a SN3, which again has direct competition against a SN2 as these are really affordable s/h.
Hefty pinch of salt required imo. For every NAP250.2 grumbler here, I’m guessing there are probably about a hundred delighted NAP250.2 owners who we don’t hear from.
Was really happy with mine (282/250.2/hi-Cap) for more than 10 years …
For my taste the new range as moving to a very different signature…would call it « more modern / analytic sound » ….N50 is perhaps in the middle in term of sonic signature….so depend your expectation
