Nait with non Naim source

I understand that Naits have a different grounding or earthing topology that requires a Naim source such as a CD player or streamer for the best grounding or earthing.

What if the Nait is connected with a single source such as CD player of another brand? Will the grounding or earthing be compromised? Will the Nait produce a hum or buzzing sound to the speakers?

In the Naim system the source, usually CD, has a signal to earth connection. This is the system earth reference. It’s important that you only have one in the system, hence why the steamers offer a switch just in case you also use a naim cd player alongside.

You can use a Naim amp without a source that has a signal to earth connection, but results can vary. It’s really a case of trying out and seeing how it goes, particularly with regard to hum. If you get the latter, there are ways to solve. Worth reading some related threads on here.

I understand the idea of grounding a Naim amp through a Naim CD player or streamer, but given that they were originally designed to work with an LP12, are they not able to work without being grounded through the source via a DIN cable? As far as I’m aware Naim didn’t alter the design of their amps when CD players arrived - or did they?
(They certainly didn’t alter the design of the volume pot to accommodate digital sources!)

They work just fine with an LP12 source. What can cause problems are sources that float their mains earth or a turntable with a compromised earth.

Sure, but with a Naim DIN cable carrying the common ground back to mains earth via the source, the same is presumably not possible with a turntable using phonos?

It is when you connect the TT earth lead to the amplifiers ground point.
