Nait50 auto shutdown in 12 minutes

Hello everyone, may I ask for help:

The Nait50 enters standby mode after approximately 12 minutes while playing music, regardless of whether Instant On is set to On or Off.

However, when there is no signal input, the unit does not enter standby mode after 19 minutes or even longer, with Instant On set to On.

Has any friend encountered this situation?

my system:
Roon > Ambre > Metrum Adagio > Hiline 2RCA-5Din > Nait50 > Falcon Ls3/5A

Which is correct.

Which isn’t right. Is the NAIT50 getting hot, when it does this ? What speaker cables are you using ?

It’s obviously faulty so you need to get in touch with your dealer/Naim.

If the amp is switching itself off when music is playing, it is faulty.

Yes, I wonder whether the NAIT is going into protection mode.

Agreed, Richard– it should come back on itself if that’s the case.

To the OP @vochoi , does this happen if you use a different source to the Metrum ? I note this is a NOS DAC so there is no output filtering and perhaps an excess of out of audio band HF noise is upsetting the NAIT ?

Thanks James, Yes I’ve tried to link vintage Philips cd player to N50 with Hiline, it nice playing whole CD ; and move to Metrum Pavane (NOS DAC too), N50 also in normal use. But,
the white light was still bright all day when no signal in.(instant on: on), quite strange!

I think it is normal temperature when playing. cable to speakers: Sommer Excelsior.

seems like that. :flushed:

I wonder… I can find some specs for Sommer Excelsior Classique cable and it’s highly capacitive compared to what Naim would recommend, the figure quoted being 125pF per metre. No idea what the inductance figure might be, but I see images that show it’s woven, which is normally done to lower inductance, and not great for Naim amps.

Compare with 16pF for naca5.
Inductance is 1 micro Henry but can’t find for the sommer cable.

Yes Sommer Excelsior Classique EX42.
i’ve found these info but EX4K:

The EXCELSIOR® classique 1 XLR 1 consists of two combined, opposing wire pairs (crossover) with 4 x 0.20 mm² each. That way we achieved an extremely low capacitance of only 37 pF per meter which enables a super low-loss transmission (even with excess lengths). A tight stranding technique and fine, oxygen-free copper wires ensure a homogeneous, linear and pure sound image. Moreover, the cable has a tight multiple shielding with a 100 % degree of optical coverage. Each channel was equipped with a tin-plated helical CU screen and an AL/PT foil. In addition the cable has an overall screen of tin-plated CU cross-braiding. Thus the cable is perfectly protected against external interference.

I confused that, the capacitive of speaker cable can lead the shutdown problem?

That appears to be for XLR signal leads, not speaker cable.

What speaker cable did you use with the nait 2?

i’ve just 1 pair cable for the Falcon, Excelsior Classique EX42.

we compare the nait50 and CB nait2 tonight, N50 much better than CB N2, More refined high frequencies, broader low frequencies, and a denser midrange. A stronger sense of control. In comparison, the N2 sounds somewhat harsh. (Of course, the N2 has not been maintained.)
The Phone in N50 especially good!

Sorry, the spkr cable is EXCELSIOR® classique EX3V, just check the info on the box.

Sommer EX3V
Miscellaneous:
Capacity wire / wire at 1m: 125 pF
Inner conductor: 2 x 4,0 mm² [AWG 11] with a stranding of 225 x 0.15 mm
Insulation: PVC 3.5 mm

This is from the FAQ, that may help you to identify your issue.

DG…

Thanks DG!
let me try other cables… maybe will buy 3.5 metres A5 or A4 or K20… :pensive:
