Nap 200 not powering up

no sound this morning. Power cycle didn’t pan out. Since NAP 200 didn’t complete shut down, speakers didn’t pop. Now power button doesn’t work as expected. strange resistance feel to touch

I guess it needs a service from Naim?

Thanks

Done the obvious ? Disconnect from mains and prod the on/off button with the eraser end of a pencil? Or if that is ok, external fuses.

@PigsontheWing What does your dealer say? Have you contacted your dealer?

They need to do the basics first. They’ll look a right tool if it a stuck on/off switch or fuse. The first is a common fault.

If it’s a case of the power switch not latching then do as Thegreatroberto recommends; unplug form the mains and then exercise the switch with the eraser end of a pencil until it starts latching properly again. Otherwise, if the mains switch is latching but it’s not turning on, check the fuses in the mains plug and in the IEC inlet.

I have ascertained that the plug fuse is not blown, and have also followed the procedure to get the button working again. Still no ON

I am unfamiliar with IEC fuse and have had partial look and online fused IECs and they are a bit more obvious than this one. I need to get the amp out to take a good look at the IEC inlet as maybe it would hinge open to reveal a fuse, via an possible open slot inside the amp mains socket is that likely it please?

Thanks

Have a look at this thread which shows the IEC socket and fuse holder which should help you locate things on your 200.

Hi,

Thanks so much for all your help thus far.

Inside the fuse holder I found two glass type fuses active one, was blown and another OK.

These are smaller fuses. and I guess also 13A I didn’t notice any marking but I conclude similar to the mains plug. Any recommendations on from where to procure please?

I now have the NAP 200 on but now sound. I did note that on powering on the speakers sounded much like the do when powering off but with possibly slightly greater volume. Still no music output however. tried internet radio and Spotify.

I have considered the SNAIC direction, and the marker on the cable is at the power end, which I believe is right. Any more ideas please?

Thanks

I just found this and have corrected but still no sound. Alas

If you’ve got the NAP200 connected via the SNAIC4 to the DIN4 output (one of the two DIN4 outputs) on the 272, then I would check that the 272 is still set to output via the DIN socket (Main Out – DIN).

See the manual, page 16 top right (4.5 The Analogue Outputs Menu).

https://dam.focal-naim.com/m/52639cd16f8943cc/original/NAC-N-Series-Ref-Manual-English-Issue-3F-pdf.pdf

Direction should be cable band at source end (272).

Hi,

Yes all seems correct, as stated, my guess it is unchanged from when it was last working.

I have tried both DIN output sockets cable is currently in the LH side socket.

Would it be of any benefit to turn the Main Out = DIN to another setting to then turn back to DIN?

Thanks

not 13A!! more like 315mA - it will be on the metal body of the fuse.

Both DIN4 outputs are the same, but check the output settings in the menu haven’t changed, just to rule this out.

Strange, not made a change for a little time, just checked a few settings, already good.

Been searching for 3.15A250V fuses 3/4 inch, 19mm still working on that. found some at 20mm

Just tried Spotify again, and I have sound again, hurrah!

Thanks so much for your help so far.

20mm x 5mm is the standard size

Hi,

Thanks to Hifi-Dog for making me think.

3.15A 250 19mm fuses seems at first sight not so easy to purchase. does anyone know of an shop that would sell these ideally in Surrey please, I mean I do see ebay and mouser but anywhere else?

Thanks Hifi-Dog, 20x5 thanks for confirming, as the fuses I have look more like 3.5mm - 4mm not 5.

Thanks

There should be a spare fuse inside the holder. You said there were two in there. Only one is active, the other is a spare.

Exactly. Just replace the blown one with the spare one that sits behind.. I’m almost certain this will fix the issue and get it working again. I had a similar problem in the past.

Edit - if you want to replace the spare one, most dealers should be able to get one for you. You can also try places like cymbiosis where I seem to remember I got spares.

if your in uk- then analogue seduction have the correct ones, just pick the right rating which in on the metal cap.. they are £1.59 each so go crazy and buy 2!

Hi

The system has been up for some months and no issue for over 2 years. I leave both UP unless I am away for a week or more. Is there anything I could do to prevent that fuse from blowing? I mean; what causes a really quite low rated fuse to blow on a system where the recommendation is to keep the system UP for extended periods please?

Thanks
