Sorry, but I am a bit of a noob when it comes to ‘proper Naim kit’, tho I have an Atom, but thats prety simple in comparison. My friend has inherited his father’s system and hasnt been able to get it to work. Being the hifi person in the group I have offered to help him get it up and running.
However, I am at a loss. I have connected it up as it seemed logical…but when I turned the amp on (with volume at zero), I got a loud hi pitch tone (hoping I’ve not damadge my speakers)…and the mute button is flashing. A bit of research on here suggested it could be a power supply issue.
Could someone please take a look at how I have wired it and let me know where I have gone wrong??
The Napsc isn’t connected to the mains. And the 200 should be connected to Standard and not Link 1, as mentioned above. All this is in the 202 manual, so have a good read.
Sorry, this was before I plugged in the mains cables. The issues I was having above was when the PS, power amp and CD player were connected to the mains.
I have moved the cable from the power amp to the STANDARD input on the pre amp…but the mute button is still flashing?? Is there something else I am not doing right???
Am loathed to reconnect the speakers and turn on the power amp…without some confirmatory feedback…
The 200 must connect to the socket named standard. The link plug must be in upgrade 2. The Napsc must be in upgrade 1. If the mute flashes there is an issue with the Napsc. Remove the Napsc, connect the paddle link plug and see if it works just powered by the 200. If it does, check the Napsc is working - does the led light up? If it does, remove the paddle link and connect the Napsc. Turn off while making connections.
As others have indicated the links between the 200 and 202 are incorrect. Also as mentioned above the NAPSC might not be working correctly but first you should get the cabling right.
As you are using the nap 200 to power the analogue circuits of the nac202 the SNAIC-4 needs to be connected in the socket just below the NAPSC socket. Then with the NAPSC powered and the nap200 switched on the nap202 should be getting the power it needs.too.
If the mute light/button still blinks it could be a fault in the NAPSC. to test this remove the NAPSC lead replace the link and see if the nac200 now works.
Have a look online for a manual if you do not have a printed copy it will explain everything about how to connect in words and illustrations.
Many thanks for you help. I now have it so that the speakers arent making a high pitch tone. The CD player is working but only comes out 1 channel.
The issue I now have is that when plugging into the RCA inputs on the back of the pre amp, I am getting nothing coming out. Have tried Aux 2 and CD (with the CD din plug removed so as not to cause a conflict), but am getting nothing out.
Flashing mute sorted…I was thinking it might be because the power amp was turned off…so disconnected the speakers and turned it on, mute stopped flashing. This was using the PS upgrade box.
Yes I think you are missing something. You really need to read the manual. I supplied a link above.
The CD via DIN interconnect will connect to any socket but for simplisity the Aux2 socket is best avoided. There are 2 aux2 sockets in your photo you were using the powered version for a Stageline. You must not use the other aux2 socket simultaneously.
The RCA inputs can only be used if you change the nac202 input assignments via the programming function. See the manual for instructions how to do that. It is not complicated but must be followed correctly to use them. The unit is reprogrammed via the remote functions.
Generally, I would suggest starting with basic connectivity - no external power supplies.
Once you’ve verified it’s working, introduce and verify power supplies one at a time.
You’ll also learn a little about what you are doing and why. This may be more helpful than trying to follow a diagram to simply connect everything up at once, without any understanding.
