I don’t know if this topic has already been covered but
i am curious to know if anyone is using a classic nap 250DR
with an nac52. Does it work ? or is it a mismatch

I have used 52 with 500DR and it sounded wonderful. Others have used 52 with 300DR (@NickofWimbledon), with great results.
Combination will work well. I used 52 serviced with Supercap 2 serviced and 500DR. Sounded awesome.

I used my 52 for many years with an olive 250 to drive Shahinian Compasses and then B&W 804 D3s before I got the 300DR. The 52 was entrancing with the 250, is better with 135s (as I think you can attest), and is even better to me with the 300DR (not the original 300). As you say, the 52/500 combo is another step up.
In short, the 52 is magnificent if sources are up to snuff. It takes something remarkable to beat a 52.

I was never impressed with the classic non DR power amps,
I am running my 52 with an olive 250 at the moment but it’s
probably due another service.

My experience is that the DR amps work well with a non DR pre.
The opposite isn’t always true. The DR’d psu/pre can sound overblown and a tad harsh with a non DR power amp, but not always.

I’m with you - chrome bumper good, olive better (in most ways), first OCs not better, DR - that’s what we wanted!
I can’t say that that applies to non-DR 500s, because I never got to do the comparison.
I’m using a 252 with a 250DR and previously used an 82 with the 250DR. Both sound great, so I’m pretty sure a 52 with the 250DR will also sound absolutely fantastic as well!
No matching issues between the olive 82 with later DR amps in my case at all.

I am currently running active 250drs with a 52. It works extremely well. The addition of 2 fraims make a huge difference. Go active.
