Iāve taken delivery of my new 300DR. Itās been warmed up now for a few hours but have to say Iām a little disappointed - the main issue it sounds very bright with some sibilance in the top register, mainly on vocals. I didnāt have any issues with my old 250DR. I guess it still early days and things will improve after some running in. Any advice on how long the 300DR takes to run in?
After 1,5 month most of the ārun inā was done. But to have it at its full potential Iād say at least 3 months.
To accelerate things a bit during the 4 first weeks I let it play music 24h/24h at minimum volume.
Come on @HiFiman ā stop your self-inflicted pain and give in, talk to your Chancellor of the Exchequer, and start saving the pennies⦠Toast and beans for the foreseeable future⦠You and your lovely SL2 crave for a 300DR ā admit it⦠![]()
Ok, thanks @Thomas. The demo 300 I had on loan from my dealer was already run-in and sounded very different. Iāll try playing mine 24h/24h for a few days⦠hopefully the brightness was start to ease off
Money put aside each month for my next upgrade not sure if itās going to be the 300DR though ![]()
Mine was ex demo so that was already done, but donāt worry about it - itāll settle in and be tremendous. Iām still amazed at the difference from the 250 to the 300.
@bongoman
Having a 300DR or 500DR new implies having highs and lows. The amp sounds dry, sometimes thin or dull, sometimes too bright, etc. itās quite frustrating, especially when you think at the cost. Itāll lasts 2-3 months. Then everything falls into place and you discover what your amp can really offer. ! I had the 300DR in combination with a 252 and later with a 552. Both preamps magnify the 300DR in their own way.
The 300DR is wonderful piece of kit that will drive your ATC SMC 19 with with authority and precision.
@bongoman my 300DR took a week to warm up and then about 6 weeks to get really on song, the mythical burn it buts its true, when I first turned my 300DR on is was almost horrrid the music that came out
over a year in now would not change it at all, the musical control, sound stage, grip and control the 300DR has is sublime
the only adjustment was spearkers when DR really came through
Thanks @Thomas @Antz - I know I should be patient, Iāve been using Naim long enough to realise that new kit can take a while to burn in
Actually things have already improved this morning. Last night I moved the PSU to the top of the brawn rack and the amp to the bottom of the brain rack. The grip on my ATC 19s is already kicking in with lots of detail coming though at low listening levels. Iāll look forward to further improvements over the coming weeks.
Well three boxes became four for me on Friday. 272 now driven by 555 and 300 instead of xps and 250. Early days so canāt be objective but best description I can give is peeling a layer away from the speakers. Everything feels +10-15%. Better bass, midrange and treble. Can feel the extra smoothness of the 300. Just a slight touch of sharpness at the top but this will go with running in. All in all very happy
Congratulations, that combo is a superb overall value.
Which speakers are you using?
I have just finished moving a few leads/cables around and toed in the Speakers slightly and WOW! How such innocuous actions can have such an impact amazes me. The 300DR continues to get better to my ears - more detail, more clarity and coherence. Small details in the background which I was vaguely aware of in the past now make sense. The annunciation of words is clear and make more sense.
Cannot praise the 300DR enough.

Spendor D7. Perhaps not the normal choice but I like them - very ānaturalā
Always interested to hear what others use or would use - might change one day but not now
I use modified Spendor SP2s with a 300DR.
Also use the D7 originally with a 250dr but the 300dr takes them too a different level altogether.
Also my experience with the SP2s, even though they are a very easy load for an amplifier.
