I believe it is even more reasonably priced on PF.
That it is and the seller is a gent (no relation, just dealt with him before)
In fact you could have a very nice 552non-DR/500DR from PFM atm for a pretty reasonable £16.5k (ish)
There’s also a 552DR on there too
Wonder if the sellers have gone for the Nait50?
You will be assimilated.
I’m already assimilated, resistance is futile.
Hello DAVE
Sorry i missed that. It’s a none DR 2008. So yeah 15 years old and possibly recap time.
It had been sitting in dry storage for 8 or so years before it was even opened! I did actually witness the unboxing. I asked Naim about the storage time, i was told anything up to 10 years should be ok.
What gets me with the 500 is when used with my SL2 speaker is the detail at low volume, the grip in the bottom end is almost earthquake worthy like “P” wave before the shanking . I also like the fact i no longer need to crank things up to get the whole show.
Very impressive indeed. Id almost say if you own a good set of SL2 and aren’t using a 500 (or something similar) hanging out of them you’re kinda missing the point of the SL2 design. Im not saying 135 etc aren’t doing it, im just saying nothing like a 500 can do it.
I offered ‘my dear” to sell my motor bike so i can pay for the 500 but didn’t get the desired response (that was surprising)think she’s on to me and knows I’ll just go and buy another bike .
Anyway i will have a Nap 500 at some stage even with what is happening locally and internationally. Attraction/Focus on it and it will happen.
Totally agree. I believe I play on lower volume than anytime before because it sounds so wonderful from the get go. And due to this it feels like my ears can hear different levels in the music than when playing louder since my ears are always relaxed. One might think that a big amp is challenging for low volume and small rooms. I would claim the opposite.
You need to offer to buy “the dear” something nice first and bank a credit.
There is a lot less temporal ‘smear’ with the 500, so the energy is not spread-out into the ‘gaps’ between the weave of notes being rendered and there is both more resolution and dynamic range being revealed in the subjectively lower noise-floor.
Just a better Amp architecture design and implementation with attention to real-time musical replay.
In short - it sounds great because it has little of its own ‘sound’.
When I got my first non-DR 500 I expressed the effect as ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in that it revealed all subtle vocal inflections whist just taking control of the bass and showing what drums shound sound like in my room.
A fun device - get one when you can afford it.
DB.
Good idea!! She will probably want his 552
Yes the Nap 500 really shines with a Nac 552, a superb musical combo.
One of the most noticeable differences I’ve found between 135’s and a 500 is the ability for the 500 to cast an absolutely immense image. My DBL’s fire across the room but the room it’s self is a round ten metres long. I was playing Daft Punks ‘Georgio by Moroder’ to a mate the other night and he couldn’t believe the width of image, which seemed well outside the boundaries of my room. He also commented that it was better than being at a concert. Oh, and this track should never be played at low levels. It needs to be at least warp factor 10 on the dial!
I still maintain my non DR 500 is my best upgrade, coming after NDS/555DR, Kudos 606, NAC552DR. Whether I’d still feel the same if the 500 came before the 552DR, for example, I don’t know. It just let’s everything flow beautifully.
I don’t think there can be many better Hi-Fi bargains than a non-DR 500 right now.
That said, I’m sure the DR is something very special indeed.
You haven’t lost your touch
Record time as well
One other thing that a Nap 500 do so much better than 6 x Nap 135 into DBL´s,is drama and involvement in the music.
Is that DRama😂
