It truly was. With the ND555 at 6k I am kinda shocked every time I listen to music at the moment the shift from the NDX2 and the 300dr is mind blowing. Time to just enjoy now.
Even better. Thought I got a good deal on ND555 but that is superb for £6k. You have won the lottery!
Do you mind me asking where you are shopping?
Wow, you got some amazing buys there, well done.
Well it was closer to 7 but it started with a 6 - very lucky boy…
Spotted something on a well known site and then found the same thing direct via their shop front by chance as I was looking more widely but recognised the serial. So offered lower as it would save them. luck / Serendipity.
Definitely and thank you. I’ve been without music all week after selling my 250 at a time when I needed it more than ever.
The good news is, I’ve got the system back up and running. I had forgotten how much fun burndys are when you’ve not used that type before Anyway, too late to play anything for a proper demo but based on what I’ve heard at low volumes it is night and day vs. the 250!
I’m a little worried the Fraim is not strong enough with the extra box so I may need to take the long legs out and revert to standard ones for peace of mind (until I have space for a double Fraim)
The long legs make it wobbly and I would change to standard legs or medium with large stacks, until you go to 2 stacks.
Thanks Dan, that’s what I’ve experienced and it makes me nervous, especially as a couple of my shelves are Fraim lite so the cups and ball bearings are sitting directly on the shelf rather than in the indents on the full fat versions.
I have moved the stack further back now I’ve got my mains leads nice and tidy with my DIY block on the wall so I’m going to nice my speakers a bit further apart which is much needed and should also improve things
I’m currently listening to bending hectic by The Smile and it sounds brilliant. The sq is so much clearer, more detailed and feels more all encompassing if that makes sense? The timing and pace feels smoother and the speakers seem more at ease too. One very happy customer Thanks for all the advice.
If you have the Fraimlite shelves at the bottom, and the higher ones Fraim it will be better. It’s your source and preamp that will benefit more from full Fraim shelves.
It will be absolutely fine.
I am glad that you are pleased with the aound quality improvements from the 300DR.
Any joy with 555PSDR purchase? That will make possibly even more difference in your system.
Thanks Dan, I’ve now also plugged in the Sarum T din. Wow! It’s taken it up to an even further level of clarity and detail. I used to have the old Sarum and it was a bugger of a cable to work with - very tough, thick and heavy and I was always worried the connectors were under unnecessary stress. This is the complete opposite and very lightweight.
I’m so impressed, I just had an offer accepted on a pair of Sarum T XLR leads on eBay. The guy who owns them had them changed to RCA plugs so they would with with a non Naim amp. It’s going to cost a fair bit to get them changed back by Chord, but still massively cheaper than buying new. It means I’ll have Sarum T everywhere in my system which is nice for consistency.
The 555PS will therefore need to wait until next month but I’ve also managed to buy a second hand full Fraim shelf that matches the two at the top of my stack so I’ll be ready and waiting when pay day comes around again. More than enough to enjoy until then
I also finally, finally achieved this!!! With the obligatory very painful accidental stab in my leg by one if the very sharp base feet…
Oh dear, i really didn’t want to read this, but thanks for sharing your experience here anyway
Listening to some house music now and the 300DR has a LOT more bass too. Deeper, punchier and much fuller. The amp must be getting warmed up now as everything is sounding great. As everyone told me the 252,NDX2,300 set-up is clearly very well matched!
Wow, the 300DR is really coming into its own the more I listen to it. I am currently listening to the four pre-released singles from Jamie XX’s new album and it sounds unbelievable. I do find I need to turn it up to 9pm to really benefit from the extra dynamics, detail, separation bass and punch (you name it, all the cliche descriptions delivered by the 300DR!). However, it is far less loud at 9pm than the 250DR if that makes sense. I would find the 250DR start to get too much at that level unless the neighbours were out
That is one thing I have always found about good systems in nightclubs - if you can still talk when it is loud, you know it is good. If you have to shout in someone’s ear to be heard…not so good. Not that the 250DR is like that, but the 300DR is a big improvement.
I would say what you paid for your 555 was a steal!
It was. Giving great service to my ndx2 right now. One of the best upgrades in last 2 years.
Glad you like it. Although I don’t think that was ever going to be in doubt. I loved my 300 and the DR version will be better still
Yes I’ve found the 300 DR is a considerably better performer at lower levels than the 250DR, the question is does the 500DR improve upon this further?
