NAS firmware and security

There have been a number of security issues including vector attacks on NAS devices over the last couple of years.
It is essential to ensure that you implement security measures such as keeping firmware updated to secure your device. Even more so if you allow remote access.
Apologies in advance if this is teaching granny…

Most of the NAS security vunerables that I read about have nothing to do with music related packages,
I don’t have any unnessesary stuff installed, my Synology has only File, Backup, Search & Asset installed. Plus I have it set to update itself automatically, and send me an e-mail when it does.
Last time was week or so ago.

QMusic was targeted for attack by QSnatch malware affecting Qnap users.
But all devices are at greater risk particularly if they are exposed to the internet by opening ports.
