NC max volume set to 85% or 100%?

In the Naim app I can set the max NC volume. Is there any SQ reason to set it beyond the default of 85%? Thanks.

Hi @Jaybar

You have asked this question before, please read these links below for the answers given. As you have all working well, it would be good to leave everything as it is set up to avoid any further issues.

@GeoffC I’m not sure that @Jaybar got much feedback on his question when he asked it the first time (just 2 vague/inconclusive responses, as far as I can tell).

And the second time he asked, you shut him down immediately.

And the third time he asked, you shut him down immediately again.

Seems a bit off. Am I missing something?

Just my opinion, but…

It’s good internet forum etiquette to attempt to continue recent, earlier threads on a particular topic, instead of creating multiples, because you are not satisfied with the responses or for whatever other reasons. This is in the interest of not unnecessarily increasing forum entropy.

Simply bump the earlier thread and request more opinions if necessary.

BTW, if the thread is already closed, you can request that Richard reopens it by sending the request via the Flag button.

OTOH, if the earlier thread is very old, then it’s certainly fine to start a new one on the same topic.

Again, this is my opinion.

My understanding, having talked to my dealer, is this setting is a software setting so has no effect on sound quality. It simply sets an upper limit on the ladder volume control.
I’ve actually reduced mine further to 70% as a safeguard for the speakers. This as there are now multiple ways to control the volume with apps etc. and therefore multiple ways to easily nudge the volume too high. It does mean that the LEDS on the 332 volume control are further around the dial for a given volume setting, but I just got used to that.

Hi @stavrose

My intention was to politely point out that the question had been asked by the poster before and that there was no need to start a new additional thread. A continuation of an existing open thread and even giving it a bump question, is of course fine.

A quick glance back (sorry on mobile here) I found more than 2 answers that were not vague, and I am fairly certain the subject of NC max volume setting has been discussed elsewhere and a search would have reaped results.

@Jaybar has had some operational issues with his set up, but has recently stated that it’s sounding the best he has ever heard it.

Myself and others have suggested to him to leave everything as is, and simply enjoy the music, to which I believe he agreed.

Best Regards
Geoff

Hi @GeoffC I felt the way that you ‘moderated’ @Jaybar, especially when he started the first dedicated thread to the topic (a perfectly reasonable thing to do) was a bit heavy-handed and arguably not your job.

No hard feelings, just wanted to point it out.
