As most ND5-XS users I don’t have the display any longer. Annoying, certainly seen the investment, though so far I was able to control with the IPhone app.
However the iPhone App version 7.1 (1739) doesn’t include the ND5-XS any longer, though only ND5-XS 2. I guess therefore it can’t find my ND5-XS any more. So my alternative of controlling via the app seems to have gone.
Does someone know a solution to get the Wifi connection back upon the Naim app.
Thx. John.
There is no reason the latest app cannot control your streamer. Try turning the ND of and on again, and it should appear automatically. You can also pull the app home page down, which makes it look for streamers.
If that doesn’t work, turn off the ND, reboot the router and then turn the ND on again.
Some update:
I guess my ND5 XS is simply not connected to wifi.
Is there a way to connect my ND5 XS to wifi without using the (not working) display. If so, the app would be able to function again, I guess.
Thanks if anybody can give some guidance. As probably already clear I m not really an expert in this subject. So each advice is appreciated.
Did it work on WiFi before the update of the app? Have you changed your router or other network elements at all?
Also did you know that Naim will replace a screen on the old green screen streamers for a much lower price than a normal service? Last time I heard it was about £150 including return delivery back to your dealer. If you are interested in that then you need to go to a Naim dealer and get them to check with Naim, then they can book it in and send it off to Naim for you. Naim won’t accept returns direct from customers.
I’d suggest connecting the ND5XS with an Ethernet cable. It should then show up. In my earlier suggestions I was wrongly assuming it was already cabled.
Excellent. That seems to be the way ahead then. Without a screen, logging in to wifi is hard, and the wifi on the green screen streamers is pretty poor at the best of times.
People have reported success with that DIY solution but it’s very tricky to do unless you have good soldering skills and a steady hand.
Why do you think the WiFi name might have changed? If you have a change of router then it’s not just the name (SSID as it’s known) but for sure the password too and also the IP range might be different, although that wouldn’t matter if you still had the ND5 XS set to automatically getting an IP address (DHCP as it’s called).
-I dId change SSID name when having some issues with cams here. I changed the SSID name back to the earlier one to see wheter that helped, but not. Passwords were the same for both SSID names.
Nog really soldering skills. So if that is needed it is nog an option.
From a financial point I have to consider if it makers sense to spend 400 EUR for the ND that had a market value of 800 - 900 EUR as I read.
Sure that I had DHCP turned on, so no fixed IP adress.
If you change the SSID back to what it was and restart (turn the power off and on again) the router first, then the ND5XS and also restart the Naim app, it should work. The new app didn’t have a WiFi bug as far as I know from the many other reports.
Otherwise I agree with HH that using an Ethernet cable is the answer. It will be much more stable than the WiFi which is not very good on the old streamers. It may be a real pain to hide one adequately, but it’s worth the effort and would save you spending so much on a streamer that really is a bit out of date now.
Will do all the resettings (both SSIDs) another time to be sure.
ethernet without app is not really the answer. I should be able to see channels, stations.
-wifi before was quite OK. Distance to router isn t that big.
Alternative ND5 XS2 is technical quite an improvent as I hear you well?
If you use Ethernet to connect the ND5 XS to the router then you should now see it in the Naim app. You mentioned that the ND5 XS isn’t listed in the “set up” page of the app. That’s because you don’t need to set up anything in the ND5 XS in the app, unlike all the more recent streamers.
So, as HH said before, the ND5 XS and indeed all the other old streamers like NDX, NDS, Unitiqute, Uniti 2, SuperUniti, NAC N-272 and a couple of others don’t appear in the app set up page because they don’t need setting up in the app. If you go to the setup page and tap “show me my devices” or whatever the current wording is, you should see your ND5 XS right there. Tap on that and it will open that device.
I see Naim have changed the workflow around the entry to the app. If you are getting the fancy coloured “set up a new device” page, tap the x in the top right hand corner and your existing devices (any of the ones I mentioned above) should appear (because they don’t need setting up in the app).
Thanks David, HH. The app is working again with the old WIFI SSID. Pure sillyness from my side, checking the earlier SSID name another time, I had forgotten an “-“ as part of the name.
Anyway, happy it works, directed by your tips.
David, hearing the display kits are only 110 EUR and don’t need soldering / software updates. So for a relatively small amount, I m going to make an attempt to fix myself.
