ND5-XS Won't Power On

I just received my second-hand ND5-XS and when I go to power it on . . . nothing?

It’s plugged in.

The unit did not come with a “link plug fitted”. Is a link plug necessary to power the unit?

I would appreciate any other troubleshooting ideas you might have, as the dealer from which I purchased the unit is not open over the weekend.

Is there a blown fuse?

How to i access the fuse?

I think that little compartment to the right of the plug flips open. Try sticking a flat screwdriver under the left side.

Got it open. Looks like the one deepest in the unit is the live fuse and then there is a spare. both look to be in good condition. I swapped the two just to see if the spare would yield electron flow to no avail.
Thanks for the idea.
Any others?

No sorry, it might be the link plug you mentioned above. I owned an ND5XS2 for a while, but I no longer have it to refer to.

It won’t work without a link plug.

Robert is correct.

The Naim Link plug is an electrical shunt, when inserted to the rear of the ND5xs, completes the power supply circuit so that the ND5xs only uses the internal power supply.

With the Link plug removed, the ND5xs is now expecting an external power supply feed through the correct Naim Burndy cable.

I dont understand why someone would sell it without the link plug.

What a hassel.

Thanks for confirming that the link plug is the issue.

The Link Plug should have come with it, suggest you contact the seller and ask them to send it onto you.

Don’t know where you’re based, but Cymbiosis have the Link Plugs for sale on their website as another option.

They may have been using it with a Naim power supply (XP5 XS) but ‘they’ should have kept the link plug.

I did the same and lost the plug had to buy a new link plug - not cheap for what they are about £100.

Your dilemma might be - do you spend £100 on a link plug or buy a secondhand XP5 XS and knock £100 off that. It will improve the sound.

Or will you end up paying too much and find you could have picked up an NDS.

I would go back to seller and complain.

If they haven’t got the link plug, they may not have tested the unit recently which may also mean that it isn’t on the latest firmware. You need 4.9 to get the new Naim internet radio service and anything older than 4.8 won’t work reliably for Tidal. Something to check when you get it powered up. If it’s on old firmware then the dealer should update it free. Or you can do it yourself, but it’s a bit of a palaver…

Where are you? People ask for stuff / advice and we don’t know if you are in Hull or Honduras or Hungary?

Check in the box, as the unit doesn’t fit neatly within the packaging with the link plug in place.

£100? Then i looked at the picture and realised it is a burdy blank plug thingy. But still a lot of money for what is a few links.
Remember getting my first nac 72 from ebay with no link plug and wondering why things were not working with the hicap. Since then those link plugs live in the boxes now.

I’m in West Sesttle, WA, USA.
I’ve notified the dealer. Unfortunately they are closed for the weekend, so we will have to wait and see how they remedy the situation.

If this is an authorised Naim dealer, they should know better. They should also have supplied it with a proper Naim mains lead, remote control, WiFi antenna and 5 pin DIN cable, so while you’re at it, get them to provide any of those that were missing too.

Per google; “Yes, TMR Audio (The Music Room) is a fully authorized dealer for Naim Audio.”

What is a proper main lead? It came with a power cable and a wifi antenna and some documentation. No din interconnect, linkplug, or remote.

Look here:

mains lead, DIN5 interconnect, Link plug, BNC to RCA adaptor, Wi-Fi Antenna, Uniti Remote, F plug adaptor (only with FM module)
