I’m a bit confused in this, despite reading several threads and searching the on-line manuals. Further complicated in that the web site does not having a rear view of a ND555 so I don’t know which setting it is on? And, on the firmware threads people are saying you need change the setting - which seems a bit odd?
So, two questions: When viewed from the front, which setting in the ground switch is default and which is floating? Secondly, should it be set to default or Floating? My LP12 has a grounding wire attached to my Heed Quasar phono stage.
That is What is recommended by naim.
But for some the Setting floating have fixed the unhappy Moments with new fw.
Set Mine to Floating now. Do Not have a naim cd Player connected
LP12 earthing is not so straightforward in my experience. The only way to know for sure is using a multimeter to check for continuity between the deck’s earth lead and the earth pin of whatever power supply you have.
Examples from my LP12 and upgrades over the years are as follows:
Valhalla PSU - the earth lead was connected directly to mains earth.
Lingo 4 - earth lead provided a connection with a few ohms resistance to mains earth
Radikal 2 - earth lead still provides continuity to the chassis but there is no connection to mains earth. In this configuration I took an additional earth wire from the grounding post on the back of the Nait 50 to the ground post on my mains power block.
Mike in answer to your first question as you feel the switch on the back from the front of the ND552 default is when the switch is slid right towards the white phono input above it and floating is when the switch is slid left towards the red phono input
I run currently un-earthed.?
Nd555 on floating and earth lead disconnected (supercap feeding prefix is off).
My powerigel is star earthed - have no idea if this has something to with it.
My gut is feeling a bit strange with nd555 set to floating. But as it was recommended and brought (a bit) the old sound signature back (the one before fw update) I am running it this way.
