ND555 -- are these features or a bugs?

An adventure today . . .

I did a factory reset on the ND555 following installation of the latest firmware, per a recommendation of a trusted fellow Naim enthusiast (most know him as @ChrisBell ).

Two things that “bugged” me.

First, the ND555 screen that tells me to pair the remote does not go away once the remote has been paired . . . inducing me to pair it probably a dozen times. I finally went to the app where I realized setup is completed . . . during which that screen does go away after a while.

Second, I was getting NO SOUND from the player. I tried playing with all sorts of settings until I randomly realized that System Automation had defaulted to “off.” I turned it on and . . . voila. I can now turn it off again, and the streamer keeps outputting a signal. Buy why would it have to be turned on from factory reset in order to work at all? @Richard.Dane might you flag this for the Naim team? Seems like this is not quite right. TY!

Bart, the best process for flagging any issues up to Naim is to contact the support team on Support@naimaudio.com

p.s. AFAIK, when you run a factory reset then all settings should return to default values.

Factory reset is factory reset. Software back to where it is when leaving the facktory. All changes made from new will have to be changed again.

Does that mean that you need to update the recent firmware again?

DG…

No a software version does not go back with factory reset. Only all settings go back to default and data gets cleared.

Yes, but no sound without System Automation turned on, I’m pretty sure, is not a default condition as intended!

System automation is just a control on or off. I don’t see it should turn sound on or off? Maybe you use RCA because I believe they changed default output to something it wasn’t before with the new software.

I agree – Im quite sure it should not do this.

But no, it wasn’t any other setting issue; I worked through all of those. . . (I use the DIN output and DIN is the default and I even changed it from DIN to RCA and back, and to DIN+RCA, to see if that fixed things and it did not.) I think it’s a bug and I’ll pass it along to the Naim team and they can take it from there!

Got an update from Naim Support about these two issues.

  1. Indeed the ND555 splash screen is a bit misleading in that it does not warn that once the remote is paired, the screen doesn’t change and one must turn (not re-turn) to the app to finish the setup.

  2. It’s a known “bug” that at initial setup, if a System Automation cable is in place, there can be no sound if System Automation is not yet turned on via the app. At least I know that things were working as expected if not fully intended.
