ND555 dilemma (or else)

:scream::scream::scream::astonished::astonished::astonished::thinking::astonished:

I’m sorry but I’m going to repeat it is a matter of opinion and to these ears the ND555 sounds bright, certainly compared with the smooth ND555. If you read back on some of the reports users have had to go quite considerable lengths to get it sounding as it should including trying different wires etc, and an excruciatingly long run in period.

Certainly the OP should have the machine checked but I anticipate there is nothing wrong with it.

Sorry.

Lindsay

the problem is that you heard the demo with bright sounding speakers, Dynaudio, Focal…

They have

Does the OP have a type of fridge with an inverter compressor ?

Or any surge protector devices ?

i had some years ago a problem with my nap 200. It was checked by the French distributor at that time. They found no problem. Hopefully my dealer insisted and i too. There was a problem with the circuit.
It finally was repaired by Salsburry.

And Kudos 808s and whilst it was not ear shatteringly bad - it was still bright.

I can’t say you are absolutely wrong Lindsay. But i strongly feel that something is wrong with the item. Stephan said he even hear his nd555 bouncing. It’s not normal if it’s on a fraim.

Dynaudio is NOT Bright.

for me…

Argh - so opinion does come into it!

sorry, but you were the first Lindsay. However, you are right, we are off topic and have to stop. Sorry Stephan.

Stephan/Guys,

In responding to Mr Rooster of course I’m not complaining to be “absolutely right”.

However, what in effect I am saying is that having heard this component on 3 occasions I recognise the traits Stephan refers to.

Regards,

Lindsay

That was the case with my first one. There was something rattling inside (other than the suspended subchassis), which made a tinkling noise just by tapping the glass shelf. That was mounted on Fraim on a rigid floor. Maybe he has the same problem. It sounded OK, although I took it back less than one day later because I was worried about it. I wish it had just been repaired rather than being replaced. As I have said above, the replacement unit came with a scratch on the underside of the case, which is very disappointing.

but you can’t see the scratch, so i would not worry so much, i think.
But i understand, for the big price paid, there should be no scratch.
I wonder if something has changed at Naim audio.
A lot of problems with the beginning of the uniticore, a lot of faulty nova, some nd555 screen freezing…a scratch…

The problem is that I know it’s there and when I read threads like this I’m reminded of the price paid (£13,000) and I think about all the hours worked to raise the funds.

And now you’ve reminded me of the screen freeze problem - I must be due another sometime soon.

i hope no . You had the nds before? do you find the nd555 more bright sounding?

ANYWAY! Hows @Stefan getting on with his ND 555? Is it starting to settle down or is it sounding just as bad?

I had an NDS for several years, and then traded it for an ND555. The ND555 sounded fabulous the first time I turned it on. It never sounded “bright” to a fault.

Yes, the ND555 is brighter sounding than the NDS. It still has days when it sounds a bit off, although today it’s been very good.
