ND555 Impressions

But when? It is nearly a year since we first encountered the ND555 and still no manual. It would be good to have an idea of when we could expect said manual. Surely Naim Audio has the email address of all ND555 owners, so it would be easy to keep us updated on progress of the manual. Maybe you’ll even receive a copy with your third unit!

The old Naim management made the no manual decision, so i think as Charlie has changed that decision, it will take some time…not expecting a manual with my next unit.

Whilst I would like to see a paper manuel I would also like to see that when you register your product on the Naim website after you enter the Model and Serial number a pop up box should give you access to download the correct Manuel.

All my manuals are downloaded and stored on my iPad etc the paper Manuels have yet to be opened.

Yes, I can see no justification for a paper manual, a downloadable .pdf would be ideal.

Go to Naim’s website, under the products page for the 555 you can find an interactive guide

Why it’s hidden away here I don’t know, it my now be linked from elsewhere in the site but I haven’t found it. Presumably there’s one for the other streamers too.

Absolutely, but if i buy a kettle at Aldi fot £15 , i get a manual. And al, you need is to plug in and…play

@Simon-in-Suffolk

Hi Simon,

I didn’t really try that, but will do and give it some listening time :+1:
It makes sense to let the Roon Core do the decimation work.

What sounds a bit odd to me, is that the article states that enabling all the “Inputs” will enhance sound performance. If the driver or the subsystem routine is never invoked it shouldn’t make a difference weather or not it is enabled.

That’s more of a quick start guide, try finding the bit where it tells you how to replace the element.

They aren’t nearly as comprehensive as the old pdf/paper manuals, and navigating them can be a nightmare, especially on iOS devices.

Tru but it’s more than the QuickStart guide, what puzzles me is why they’re hidden away like that.

Sorry, i meant plug, play and throw away…which is what happens at that price…but they still try, but at £13k Naim must do better.I have a great dealer who has helped me a number of times because the information was not on the website…i feel sorry for those outside the UK. Hopefully it will be sorted, soon.

Nice to see the inside config.

Yes the ND555 White Paper has been out for a while. An interesting read.

It didn’t in my system, excellent from the start and not much change since.

Dem today. All I can say is that if you can’t afford it, don’t listen. I have just made that mistake. All the cliches are sadly appropriate. A veil lifted. The dirty glass cleaned/windows thrown open. My NDS sounds broken etc. etc…:upside_down_face:

Well I seem to have survived, but I have upgraded to an unDRed 552/500 combo, having auditioned the combo with ND555. Perhaps with full SL I might think like you, but with the 552/500 at home using Innuos Zenith Mk 2 into nDAC and full SL I am loving what I have.

Don’t get me wrong, I am sure ND555 is brilliant but it’s not the only show in town.

Hi all have been - pretty quiet for a while … my whole network went down…it has taken me nearly 2 weeks to sort out.

Anyway I am backup and running - I am running with temporary patch cables - holy moly - the sound quality is not what it was… I noticed that at the time I was doing a mega file sync (using Free File sync - fantastic software) … with my other computer which connects to a small switch - which my Roon Nuc and ND555 is linked to. So … my separate computer sync was using the same ethernet cat 6 line as the Nuc/ND555 … Needless to say - it certainly harmed/destroyed the sound quality -

I am considering taking the Nuc and the music nas (WD Mycloud 4TB) off the main network - all together and using wifi to sync roon for meta data. So my system goes through no switches and does not share any direct wired data lines … Has anyone tried this approach???

Wow that sounds a nightmare, perhaps SiS and DB can comment. Thought wisdom was to use switches to isolate from router and take switching duties away from the router?
