10 cents of economy, X xxxxxxx NSC 333 sold = money to buy new Salisbury antennas :joy:

Great news when is this being released think this will be a great product :+1:.

Good observation :+1:

NSS more, but indeed, an NSC 333 would be welcomed.

I was able to perform several comparative listening tests of the ND555 (with 1 or 2 power supplies) versus the NSS333.

these two streamers do not play in the same league.

the ND555 goes much further (in terms of resolution, imaging, sounds of the instruments, etc.)

NSS333 without a power supply?

with Power supply, otherwise it would have been unfair….

I was also able to listen to the new classic series, just at the release, without power and I concluded that they were really necessary ( a very big plus)

NPX300 or 555PSDR on NSS333?

There are people here claiming NDS + 555PSDR sounds pretty similar to ND555 + 555PSDR and in my system I find NSS333 + 555PSDR better than NDS + 555PSDR on all the things you list :man_shrugging:

NDS is more romantic sounding and NSS 333 + 555PSDR is more open with more insight but it is easy to hear both come from the same company so the core in the presentation is 100% Naim IMO. NSS333 without a PS is more similar to NDS + 555PSDR.

Yes, I moved from NDS to ND555…and those two are from the same facile. I found the 333 very good but maybe a little bit charm is missing

Did they demo 333 with 300 or 555PSDR?

The 333 to my ears is more exact more in focus than NDS. NDS more lush and vinyl like some might call it. 333 is more high definition, more tight and exact yet never tiring or bright. It’s an evolution on the hunt of start and stop IMO (DR). It shows you layering in music in a better way. I still love nds for what it is and does though.

Frankly, at £8,500 per component, I would think not!

Yes, an external PS might be « nice to have », but the 300 series is exceptional already as is, as it should be considering the price point.

Considering the price point, you’re absolutely right. It is a superb streamer.

It was with the 333.

And you’re right their character are little différent. 333 show high définition but 555 add a touch of “warm” (vinyl like) to it. Especialy with a second PS attached

I didn’t find this distinction with 332/300 in the chain, after years with 552/ND555 x 2 555PSDR.

G

Could the difference between results also be dependent on if ND555 had 3.8 or later software in it?

I don’t think there’s anything to suggest this at all.
If Naim had changed the SHARC DSP, I’d expect it would quickly have been mentioned alongside the separation of PCBs.
Also, historically the SHARC 21489 (Gen4) was used together with PCM1791A in the following:

2016 Nova SHARC 21489 (Gen4) Sells-Nilsson filter (brickwall IIR) PCM1791A
2016 Star SHARC 21489 (Gen4) PCM1791A
2016 Atom SHARC 21489 (Gen4) PCM1791A
2018 ND5 XS-2 SHARC 21489 (Gen4) PCM1791A

also earlier in the:
2010 NDX SHARC 21369 (Gen3) PCM1791A
2011 ND5 XS SHARC 21369 (Gen3) PCM1791A

2018 NDX2 SHARC 21489 (Gen4) PCM1792A
2018 ND555 SHARC 21489 (Gen4) 6th order Sallen-Key filtration 2x PCM1704U-K

DAC comparison:

Brand Part Number Channel Resolution (bits) Max Sampling Frequency (kHz) SNR (dB) Channel Separation (dB) THD+N (dB) Output Current (mA p-p) Output Voltage (Differential) (V p-p) Pass-band Ripple (dB) Stop-band Attenuation (dB) Package Control DSD Unit Price (USD) Technology Series Datasheet Note

apologies if the table layout is a little borked.
I’m wondering how the performance of the NDX 2 using PCM1792A appears to have gone backwards. When you look at the release schedule it was evidently introduced as an improvement on ND5 XS-2 and prior models (it is listed on the Naim site as the upgrade product to ND5 XS-2).

That could be me …

They are not similar. They are as you describe: nds more smooth, textured and together. Nd555 more open, detailedand articulated. But the latter plus 3.11 does it too much for me.

Nd555 3.8 will better nss333 - I am convinced! But nd555 3.8 is not available anymore - except some few lucky ones

Yes - fully correct. It’s the warmth the nd555 and also nds gets with second ps - combined with more detail and texture. Nds has less grip - mote together and less focussed. Vinyl like - maybe. Nd555 is organic and a bit warm and has grip and inside … sadly this ended with 3.10 up for me.

Are yours on 3.8?

I think it was Dan and Dunc if I’m not mistaken

Very good written!

There was a chat about it yesterday iirc. Is the newer stuff better by default? I don’t think so. There is still so much magic in nait1. Or 52/135… I don’t want to think about what happens when I go „back“ to 52/135/sbl.

It’s like with cars:

I have a 11 year old bmw inline 6 (35i) - analog main display - no additional particle filter.

A new inline 6 (40i) is more refined, more power, more torque, less fuel consumption, particle filter, all high def displays inside, heavier and bigger.

Is the new one the better car? Which one is more fun? Don’t know- have not tested the new one.

Same with hifi I think. New is not better by default

the 3.11.00 is in place and give me as much pleasure as the previous one did
