ND5XS2 - No WIfi connectivity

I have just borrowed a ND5 XS2 from a dealer and although I have optimised the Wifi in my house to the extent that I get at least 45 MBps in all extremities of the house, the ND5 just drops out all the time. In contrast, my current Sonos has abosutely no problems in emanating to all parts of my house. The reason for the naim is to be able to access high res tracks but I seem to be scuppered from the start. This Naim just does not do WIfi and needs solid ethernet connections. If so, why do they bother marketing this as Wifi connectivity when their dual aerial sockets have no influence what so ever!

Sounds like you need a chat with the dealer. I have a ND5XS2, and have’t encountered any problems like that. Persist - it’s worth it. Good luck!

@Stephen_Tate should help you. He is a specialist of nd5xs2 WIFI streaming.

My dealer told me that in their experience the ND5 needs the ethernet connection or ethernet on mains. I will not entertain the latter because I am sure that this will introduce much noise. So, I am now faced with the prospect of sourcing 30m of ethernet cable and running this somehow through to the streamer or just give the ND5 back. Quite disappointing really!

Hi @ejak55

The ND5XS2 has a leading edge wifi chipset in it (802.11ac, MIMO) and can support high def streaming from Wifi, assuming it’s not placed in a wifi dead spot, or a long way from the router. There are no design flaws on the wifi solution and it’s the same solution used on atom, star, nova, ndx2 and nd555.

May I propose contact our helpdesk who should be able to help on break down the problem.

If your dealer was referring to the original ND5XS, I would agree, it really needed a wired connection. The new models including the ND5XS2 are a great deal better over WiFi, and if you are experiencing dropouts, there is almost certainly a configuration issue or hardware fault behind it that it may be possible to diagnose and fix.
Without knowing the details of your network setup, we can only guess what this might be, but Naim support, your dealer, or maybe some forum members, may be able to help.

I had the original ND5-XS. It needed a wired connection to avoid dropouts for high res 24-bit, but worked fine on its slo wifi with 16/44.1. I’ve never tried the Wifi on my NDX2. I have it on a gigabit switch.

Never had a single drop out on my ND5XS on WIFI. Apple Airport Extreme.

Problem seems to have been solved by doing a factory reset and switching the router off and on! Thanks for your inputs. ND5 XS2 sounds great compared to my current Sonos connected to Linn Numerik DAC. More detail coming through and very significant separation of instruments and voices.

Beside the odd app issue, we have had no issues with our ND5XS2 on wifi, not one drop at all

I have upgraded from cascade Cisco 2960 switches with posh cables & SMPS all over the show (a hideous solution) to going Wireless from a PlusNet Hub One router. It’s miles better and sounds better too.

I don’t have any issues with a WiFi connection, it’s flawless and I have been very surprised at how good it is. Who needs ugly wires, flashing lights and obsolete switches in a 2020 HiFi system?
