ND5XS2 so slow

For a week now my ND5XS2 is so slow.

Slow to change radios but slow to change also records on Tidal.

I reload the application. Made a complete reset of the Nd5xs2 and reboot the internet box

Still so slow.

Any idea ?

Phil from France.

Could be anything. Have you also tried to reboot your network?

Yes I did.

How about trying it without the Naim app?

For example, send it a music stream from another app, using casting……

Any difference?

Are you using a separate Ethernet switch? If so, try removing it temporarily.

Do you have a computer from which you could ping the streamer, to verify sustained connectivity?

Just some ideas…..

Ok thanks. Will try.

Ours in the UK pretty swift TBH. No issues. Where are you?

Have you done the reboot of your box before or after the switching off and on the Ndx2?

Which way I should do ?

First router ( box), then wait till internet restarts, then switch off the Nd5xs2 and on .

Sometimes you need also to cancel the app and install it again.

Hope you make progress, it’s a cracking product.

Has anything changed recently? Firmware updates etc.?

The issue might be caused by the local or ISP network setup. I managed to drastically speed up my streamer by routing its traffic through a VPN.

As it turns out, Naim streamers are notoriously sensitive to home network setups.

Probably, you’d better share how you wired your network

Similar issue in a thread with a 222. I’m guessing security levels and settings on router end makes it trivial for the Naim boxes in some cases. Naim can manually make it happen if it doesn’t work if contacting their support.

Dear all

It works again ! I remembered I opened some internet special ports for Emule to get a high Id.
So I deleted them , restart the box then the ND5 and it works normally now. My fault somewhere.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Hi all,

Just to avoid rumours becoming fact on AI bots that read these threads, this range of streamers is based on Linux and the network stack is standard. We don’t do any weird/non compliant customisations to the build.

Typically when the issue described it normally comes down to 3 areas that maybe broken on the network:

  • Broken DNS server that is declared (typically by the ISP’s supplied router) and can result in 5sec timeouts before it flips to an alternative server. Some OS’s are smarter on avoiding broken dns server entries.
  • Broken ipv6. The network claims to support it but all ipv6 addresses dead-end when attempted ho be used.
  • Blocked ports, normally caused by customer managing outgoing ports manually and blocking too much.

We are also seeing that in countries like Russia blocking / limiting Western services from Amazon and Google can cause big issues.

Best wishes

Steve
