Nd5xs2 upgrade

Yes i’m tending towards getting a used 555ps non dr variant. They dont pop up that often at good price.
As long as it looks in good condition i’m not too fussed about age as they can be recapped.

2 555ps would really be an extravagance!!

As others have said, just get a 555psu.
I have an ndx2/555dr on my main system and a nd5 xs2/nDac on my second rig. A bit excessive id agree.
I uad an nd5 xs2 before my ndx2. There is definitely a difference between the 2. But the real upgrade comes with a 555. I did have a xpsdr, but that was eclipsed by the 555.

The nd5 xs2 is a very capable streamer, but its dac can be improved. NDac/555 is what id suggest. I just need to make sure i don’t do that in my second system! Although my 555dr in my main system was a very good price, even after i had it serviced at Class A.

I have the ND5xs2/nDAC/PS555DR and this is a very musical combination, which also is UPnP connected to a Naim Core.

I have utmost respect and gratitude to Naim for allowing this combination to being so musical.

I don’t miss a digital display that the NDX2 provides, as it would require me to walk over it to see what’s playing- the Naim App on my iPhone and iPad is more accessible.

Anyone who puts a PS555DR on an nDAC will have tears of joy upon listening to the attached ND5xs2, especially when considering the low price of this combination .

The nd5 xs2/555/ Ndac combo could be had for about £5k?

I have used nd5xs2 with ndac/xps and 272 as preamp, bass was a bit boomy in my small room , sell the ndac and using the one from 272 plus xps did it for me. I’m now very curious to compare with the News FW to come for nd5xs2 and analogue to 272… still, happy with the music.

Thanks for that, i have removed my post.

I would change the ND5 XS2 for a NDX 2, sell the DAC and then later add an XPS DR or 555 PSU. The ‘whole’ of the player will then be upgraded (including its transport), something that is just not possible with a ND5 XS 2, in any guise. Plus the transformer is removed in close proximity from the player itself. Again, something that is just not possible with the junior player…
