NDS Firmware v4.9 update

Help please.

Following the Firmware 4.9 update guide for Apple Mac users, I have attempted to upgrade my NDS from my iMac running OSX 15.3.2. This has got me nowhere.

My 24/192 compatible NDS’ existing firmware meets the update guide’s requirements on page 2. On page 4, because I am running an updated version of OSX, I apparently do not need to install the serial driver because the NDS has a Mini-USB B port. My iMac and NDS are linked by a USB-A to USB-Mini B data cable and also by a Cat 5e ethernet connection. However, at the Connection Check stage when being asked to select a serial port to use, rather than being able to select “usbserial-001”, all I can see is either URT1, Bluetooth incoming port and BLTH. None of these functions and that is as far as I have been able to get.

Can someone from Tech Support kindly provide a pointer as to what needs to be done - other than take an entire day out to drive up to Signals (UK) at Trimley St Mary in Suffolk.

Presumably you don’t mean that you have the iMac connected directly to the NDS with an Ethernet cable? They just need a regular connection to your home network.

Thanks, I will contact Naim Support direct and will post what they have to say. I have, somewhat disconcertingly, read elsewhere that Naim might have mixed up the Mac and Windows versions of the Firmware updaters…

Both the NDS and iMac have standard connections to the same home network. Plus the direct USB-A from the iMac to the Mini-USB-B connection at the rear of the NDS.

AFAIK, the files have been corrected. In any event, the iMac will not install a file for a different operating system.

By reference to the guide, what page are you not able to advance beyond? It is a while since I updated my SU with the same f’ware.
However, if the instructions are followed, to the letter, which is important, it will update.
You highlight “usbserial-001”, which is not exactly what the guide states.
If you are still unable to progress, you could try installing the usb driver for earlier versions of Mac OS.
Support will be able to offer some advice, but it may take a few days after the weekend.
In the meantime, if you decide to try again, switch off iMac and NDS.

Connect each by ethernet cable direct to router - avoid any unnecessary switches or patching to a WAP of any description. Then connect the usb cable and finally, turn on the iMac, once on, then turn on the NDS. Remember, follow the exact instructions, particularly on page 10.
Even those of us who have done these updates many times, sometimes inadvertently skip a step; it’s easily done.

A very important point that isn’t clear in the instructions is that everything should be connected up and powered on before you start the updater program. If the program has been started before the NDS is connected and powered up, then the program won’t find the serial connection, in my experience.
