That’s the only issue, I can’t hard wire it and I doubt the Wifi card will be able to get a stable connection.
Will give a try for sure but I will certainly use the Node for now until I can afford better for the streaming part
Down loading the firm ware is quite straight forward, chances are unless the previous owner changed his streaming habits he would likely not have considered updating the firmware. Enjoy reading the white paper!!
And btw regarding humming XPR’s some of my Naim kit hums from time to time, (not notably the XPS) - depends whether the washing machine is on a fast spin or the fridge on a chill cycle, all normal for the type of transformers Naim use and won’t interfere with your music. Whilst I am on… of course many enjoy changing cables/interconnects but I can’t detect any difference in music when I have tried alternatives, I am happy that Naim have supplied decent enough kit with the black boxes… plenty of the latter to think about should you have surplus cash!!
Definitely last point - don’t forget that your NDS has a brass floating chassis that should have been secured with transport screws when it was sent to you, don’t forget to remove these and take great care once removed as I believe that the chassis can hit other components once free
One solution to the wifi issue on the older streamers is to install a mesh wifi system with multiple nodes, place one of the nodes near the NDS and run an ethernet cable between the mesh node and the NDS. Often a Wifi extender can provide the same function. We do something similar for one of our SKY Q miniboxes which dont like 3rd party (ie non Sky) mesh wifi systems.
For Tidal/Qobuz BubbleUPnP server provides a local proxy server (with big buffers to handle internet latency) which streams even high res content to the legacy streamers. I use this on a Raspberry Pi 4 to allow multiple legacy devices to access Qobuz and it works very effectively using Linn Kazoo as the control app.
Bit of a faff but you get close to ND555 performance for a small fraction of the cost.
This is the solution that I ended up with and it has worked really well, improving quality of sound and stability of connection.
Did you make a comparison between those two configurations in your own home?
Did you get the NDS?
Sadly not yet, I am getting ghosted by the dealer …
Should have been able to take it home for a listen last weekend but it didn’t happen.
I will try again this weekend if he hasn’t sold it already
He actually just called me back!
Going to pick it up tomorrow morning, will make sure to update you once I had a listen
Oh congrats!
First impressions? What kind of system is it running in?
Am I seeing a Tidal logo in that corner display??
yes, it plays tidal natively. System is Nait 50 and XPS2 psu. For me it is the same character as Ndac with better resolution
NDS is installed and warming up!
No XPS but a non-Naim PS powering it, for the price I can’t complain.
And even with a cold start and only little time to listen, I don’t think it will leave my system any time soon!!!
It is a night and day difference and I am loving it so far.
I can’t seem to connect to Tidal via the Naim app, might be a firmware issue? As I understand it doesn’t read Hires natively anyway, so I will keep using the node to stream and use the NDS as a DAC only.
Can’t wait to give it a proper listen once everything is warm and I finish work
to get Tidal to run on your NDS and app make sure you have Naim app ver 7.2 on your app controller & firmware 4.8 on your NDS and all should be good for Tidal… make sure you reboot your wireless hub after updating your app and/or firmware.
What happened to the xps?
Well it’s a Non-Naim XPS equivalent (edited) that seems to do the job.
And for 1500$ I think it is still a good deal for an NDS and PS
Will see how it plays this weekend
Oh ok. I thought it was a real xps. Be aware that we can’t discuss those other brands of power supplies here on the forum.
Well I thought it was an XPS too, to be honest.
I see my first post got edited to “non-Naim PS” so I won’t develop any further.
You’re on very thin ice here… see the TOC of the forum.
I think we should refer to it as tempPS pending CD555PS to come
What does the lindemann bridge add to nds? Streaming hi res files or qobuz ? Or do you think it improves also reading files from a nas?
