Tidal connect, Roon, hi resolution support and better sound than native streaming through NDS.
Just make sure you get the Bridge and not the Network like I did!
That said, the Network was so good that I couldnāt part with it and itās now being used on another system. Still looking out for a bridge.
Finally got a good listen to the NDS in my system today.
I had some issues with parasitic/static noises trough the speakers, panicked, thought the NDS or my cabling was at fault.
Long story short, I redid all my cabling (wich had to be done so I count it as a win), checked every connection possible making sure no cable was ill fitted, turned everything on again and the problem was solved.
Only for it showing up again shortly afterā¦
I then only touched the RCA to BNC cable on the Node and it vanished again, I have a BNC cable with an RCA adapter on the Node side that the dealer lended me for the tryout, that is connecting the digital out from Node (RCA) to the digital in on the NDS (BNC).
I changed a setting on the BluOS app, turning on āExternal MQA DACā, even if it is not MQA and that Tidal has abandonned that format also.
There is a āExternal Clockā option as well, I donāt know if I should turn this on or off, my guess being ON?
As I was having the static issues, I switched to analog out (RCA to RCA) on the node into a separate input on my XS3 (this was my setup before the NDS, have been using it to A/B the NDS and Node DAC) and there was no issue when listening to the Nodeās analog out or even to a Radio from the NDS directly.
Am I right in assuming that the problem would be on my Nodeās digital output and not the NDS? I diregarded the BNC/RCA adapter as I have used a Toslink from the node to NDS and still had the same issue.
As I am typing this the issue hasnāt showed up for hours, but I am in a paranoid state of listening for some static popsā¦
Should the NDS be on floating ground or chassis mode? Knowing that my amp is earthed to the mains as I was having a ground loop issue with the node.
Ah and yes, I absolutely love the sound of the NDS, much more balanced than the node, I had some bass troubles before, as I had to pump the volume up in order to hear the voices at a correct level to a point where the bass was booming like crazy.
Now the voices and the mediums in general are much more present and allow me to listen at lower levels than before with everything perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Voices sounded almost harsh at first as they pop into the room much more, but that is something I was looking for and I got used to and have come to love in the few hours I spent listening, as before they were somewhere in my garden
Sorry for the book but I would love some feedback if someone has experienced something simillar before.
If the NDS is the only source connected to your amp it should be in Chassis mode. The Node having a digital connection to the NDS doesnāt change this.
If you connect the Node to the amp directly and leave the NDS connected too, probably also Chassis mode but that will depend on whether or not the Node provides a ground connection for the amp, which I would guess it probably doesnāt. If in doubt, just go with whatever sounds best.
The node is also still connected to the amp, at the same time as the NDS at least for the time being whil A/B testing.
The Node is a 2 pin (figure 8) power design, so not providing earthing to the amp, but the amp is earthed to the mainsā¦
I am quite conviced that I will buy the NDS if I can figure out the noise issues I had yesterday and will try to leave only the NDS plugged to the amp, removing the mains earth and set the NDS to chassis mode.
I had to return NDS unfortunately cause its digital inputs failed so everything is possible
Damn that would suckā¦
Have you been able to repair it?
Naim systems ground the amp through the source (CD player or streamer) via the DIN connection. So the fact that the amp has an earth connection is not relevant, as this is the signal ground we are talking about, not the safety earth.
Maybe try with a naim made power supply which NDS was made for.
My local dealer could possibly do it but I opted to stay with ndac for now
Yeah I am starting to think that the deal was too good to be true.
Even with a non-Naim PSU the price seemed suspicious.
I am in no hurry as I have just recently added the Hi-Cap DR, guess I will look for an nDac or maybe a ND5xs2 that would upgrade my source and DAC at the same time for pretty much the same price.
That could be an option even if I doubt that to be the issue, but a pricey option.
I had an interest in the NDS for the price given, I donāt have much more funds at the moment for a much pricier solution
My guess is that you should change some settings on the digital out settings of your Node.
When I had a Node feeding nDAC I could hear some Ā« clicks Ā» and Ā« pops Ā» when Ā« Audio clock Trim Ā» was on.
Disable Ā« audio clock Trim Ā» and Ā« MQA external DAC Ā» on the Node and it should work.
