NDX 2: Volume adjustment with the RC / How to set the clock to 24h? Backlight too bride

Hello,

I have sold my NDX and bought a NDX 2.
There are some things I really miss already: a proper owners manual and the remote control.
The RC from the NDX is IMHO nicer in my hand and easier to use.

With the RC from NDX i was able to control my 282 (from 2022), with the RC from the NDX 2 this is not possible.
I think this is a step in the wrong direction.
What I already found here in the forum is that an additional 3,5mm jack lead to RCA is necessary.
Due to the non existing owners manual and the incomplete info here:

it is necessary to be active here. And I know a lot of Germans who do not speak any English.
This is not really naim-like.

Why has the NDX2 a different connection as the 282 has? Does not make any sense to me.
Do not understand why this has been made so complicate, it was so easy before.

Another issues:

  • Is it possible to switch the clock from 12h to 24h mode? Here in Germany we are using the 24h setting, if possible.
  • The backlight seems to me too bride. I saw this also on several pictures. Black ist not really black. Can this be adjusted?

Regards

You can get the necessary cable for about £4, so it’s hardly a big deal. In the time taken to grumble about it, you could have ordered one.

Unfortunately you cannot set the clock to a 24h display, and nor can you adjust the screen brightness. You can adjust the brightness of the buttons.

Hopefully the much improved SQ more than makes up for these minor irritations.

I agree that Naim have not helped by producing inferior manuals compared to the older models.

The new remotes are horrible on my opinion. I don’t even take them out of the box. The 2nd gen streamers work quite differently to the older models, so the remote cannot do many of the things the old ones did, including control of Tidal, Qobuz and UPnP. Think of the Naim app as your remote, it does virtually everything.

If you search the topic, “I would like a Naim app that” I posted the instructions on how to change the display brightness.

That is really disillusioning. Can not believe that it is not possible to set the clock to 24h mode.
This it not naim-like.

I also noticed that the green illumination of the buttons of the NDX-2 is different to all other naim parts i own.
Should not be, don’t you agree?

Another issue: when I turn the NDX-2 on, I can not choose the USB-Front source. This seems only be possible with the naim app, for which I have to put on the WiFi.

Possible bug: albums starting with “…” (like Cea Serin … where memories combine…) are not shown and cannot be played.

Concerning the sound quality: I reminds me to the “loudness” (“gehörrichtige Lautstärke Korrektur” in German) function which was popular in the 90’s. Could that be?

The remote of the NDX-2 is in my opinon the worst naim remote by far. Once you pick it up, you can see fingerprints.

The form is everything else than comfortable for a hand. Also the haptical feedback during operation is poor.

I agree on this (NSS333). It looks cheap with the greyish background when it could be deep black just showing the album art. Should be possible to tweak for Naim.

Do I agree? Not really, I get the impression you just like moaning. If you don’t like the NDX2, which I loved owning and think is brilliant, then sell it and get something that actually meets your requirements.

Did you not take a look at an NDX2 before buying it? I’m not sure of the purpose of your post? You seem to have minor operational complaints. What do you think your post will achieve? The NDX2 was discontinued around a year ago.

Fair enough if you just want a rant. If you’re so frustrated with your NDX2 I would suggest you sell it and buy something else, having tried out whatever that might be before buying.

To be fair, some of what the OP is commenting are unlikely to be part of any research or demo before purchase. And refinements such as 24hr clock should not be difficult to fix in a FW update. Cant say the time display on my ndx2 has ever been used, but if it were, 24hr would be my preference over 12hr.
