That’s my suspicion too, though the 4.8 completed without error and lines were sent and installed.
Does it sound the same? Not sure yet. I plan to do a good test 4.8 then 4.9 as I did feel that after the 4.9 upgrade my NDS sounded a bit thinner, harsher.
As I posted earlier in this thread ….
During the early days of beta testing firmware, DSP software was changed to find a sound agreed by all.
There were a lot of mixed and inconsistent opinions of resulting sound changes, irrespective of NDS or NDX, conflicting opinions despite that both had the same DSP software.
Now with 4.8 to 4.9 we are getting the same mixed and variable opinions.
But unlike in the early days of beta testing, there is no change in DSP between 4.8 and 4.9.
I don’t doubt people do perceive a difference, I think my NDX sounds marginally better, more alive, realistic & defined with 4.9, but is it for real, or is it a result of the update refreshing or overwriting the firmware similar to the changes people report after an off period, or is it just a pinch of fairy dust.
If radio sounds different I guess that is all within the scope. Different servers, processing whatnot. They have also upped the streaming quality on some channels which will make it sound different. Naim said they didn’t touch anything DSP related going 4.8 to 4.9. If one try really hard I guess you can hear John Lennon sing even if it’s not playing.
vtuner via my FWP was the backdoor to make it possible to have CD quality streams on Gen 1 devices, although Naim keeps on saying that it was not possible because of the electronics in Gen1 devices. In the meantime, we’re 4 years later, and my solution does not only satisfy me, but when I read, it serves an audience across the globe. Well, I owned a Gen2 devices and drop outs happened even more frequently than on my Gen 1 device. So, that gen 1 devices cannot deal with flac stations is straight BS!
But yes, by creating their own streaming platform and not allowing anymore for Gen 1 devices to add custom radio stations, they indeed closed the door. Sad sad, very sad!
Thanks for your quick reply!
Then I won’t update to 4.9. Radio Paradise via your proxy is still working for me on 4.8 and I don’t listen much to other stations.
Best regards an thanks for your gift to the NDX community, Volker
I was so happy when I saw your post, thinking there is a solution to my problems with 4.9, that I tried it immediately. I also did notice that the favorites I had previously saved in vtuner (some hi-res stations, courtesy of Kurt), were still functional after the 4.9 update. And as a side note - I still don’t understand the claim that Gen 1 streamers don’t support hi-res, at least in radio. I have 24/192 stations working flawlessly on my 272, so whoever says otherwise must have a problem somewhere else in their setup, most likely local network or internet connection.
Coming back to the issue - after downgrading to 4.8, none of the (new) stations worked anymore. So this didn’t work in my case . Went back to 4.9, the stations started working again.
