I had a xpsdr initially. Then got a great price on a cd555psu. Sold the xpsdr. Cost to change was relatively low. The impact was not. Genuinely took the ndx2 to a much better place.
Added a 555DR to my NDX2 just before Christmas and zero regrets. It adds more texture and space to what you’re hearing. It’ll pay dividends if you were to upgrade your amp in the future as well
XPS-DR is 100% worth it, IMO. Though I did obtain mine for a song and dance (deeply motivated seller). However, I’m planning on eventually moving to a PS 555 DR for the NDX 2.
I have a CD555 on demo. Stupidly I plugged the 555PS into the NDX2. I’m sorry to say. It outclasses the CD555. The NDX2/XPS2 DR combination was close with the CD555. The NDX2/555PS is ahead.
I added a XPS DR to my NDX 2 back when I had my SN 2 and found it to be a lovely upgrade. If you can find one at the right price I would recommend make the purchase.
Others have mentioned the 555 and I am sure that would be a positive upgrade as well. With me here in the US it was cost and I was quite happy with the XPS DR since the 555 was outside of my budget.
I have been pondering this question and trying to avoid thinking about adding another box! I can see a broad range of prices for the CD555 PS on line. I’d struggle to know how much to pay, if anyone has views…
Got mine for <£4k only 4 years old with 500 finish. Be prepared to fork out another £150 or so for the relevant burndy. I took my time for the right one to come up. I think I got quite lucky given some of the price to age ratios on the bay currently. Hope that helps.
£2.5k for my 2014 DR version. Had to buy a burndy and chose to get it serviced for an additional £500. So for £3200 i have effectively got a new 555psu. Sold the xpsdr for decent money too.
