Hi
I have just installed a new NDX2. Am on Latest firmware and naim app version IOS . Ndx2 is on a wired connection. I have Tidal and can only stream to the ndx2 from the ios app using airplay. I dont see any option for TIDAL connect
Am I missing something ? And does it matter? airplay vs connect?
Thanks @GadgetMan
My issue is that i dont see the connect option at all and I have the latest firmware on the ndx2 and naim app with a full tidal subscription.
I only see airplay . Does it need to be a wireless connection for the ndx2 ?
Obviously check Mike’s advice. It doesnt need to be on wifi, just the same network. So if Mikes suggestion doesnt work, probably need to understand your network a little further.
Hi Mike i have done that. I can play tidal through the naim app . I then switch to the tidal native app but it doesn’t show the naim ndx as a ‘ connect’ option . It only shows the ndx via apple airplay
What is TIDAL Connect?
Just like Spotify Connect before it, TIDAL Connect allows you to enjoy all the rich features of the TIDAL App, and stream your choices direct from your devices to your Naim player or system. Users can still enjoy core TIDAL streaming functionality via the Naim App if they prefer. Available to all existing or new TIDAL subscribers.
Are there any other significant updates in Firmware 3.7?
No, just some minor improvements bug fixes detailed in the Release Notes below.
Can I use TIDAL Connect in multiroom mode?
Yes – even to Naim products that do not support TIDAL Connect. Simply open your TIDAL App and start playing via TIDAL Connect to a compatible Naim product (Uniti Atom, Uniti Atom Headphone Edition, Uniti Star, Uniti Nova, ND5 XS 2, NDX 2, ND 555). Then add other Naim products on your network via the usual Naim multi-room methods: via the multiroom icon in the Naim App; via the front panel/remote on the master device, or by pressing the multiroom button on the Mu-so 2nd Generation/Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation that you want to join the session.
So I understand you need to use the Tidal app, not the Naim app. The firmware must be on 3.7.
That should be perfect then. Did you try the iPhone restart? Ultimately you may need to restart the NDX2 and possibly your Mesh main device, but I’d start with the phone.
Also I note from your screen shot, that to the left of the Live Icon, my icon is a speaker, wheres yours is an airplay logo. I’ve gone through settings, but cant see anything relevant here
So ,
First, thanks for all your inputs.
To clarify, I was using the tidal app
The ndx was on the same network on the mesh.
I deleted the naim and the tidal app.
Reinstalled the naim and tidal app . Logged into tidal on both .
Now the connect icon started showing but pressing it did nothing.
So went and deleted apps again and did a full reset on the ndx2 .
Installed the naim and tidal apps again
Now i have it working finally and it sounds much better .
Well, better is a matter of taste. The sound signature is less good than Tidal on Naim. Tried several times. But will try again tonight. Maybe with the latest FW it is different.
Interesting, I was comparing sq with tidal through airplay vs tidal over tidal connect but will check also through the naim internal implementation.
One important SQ sidebar/ segue i discovered (and confirmed through previous threads on the community) was the volume options on the naim app . I changed the control to ‘fixed’ versus variable or hybrid . While it may be convenient to limit volume and to use the slider or phone controls it did make a dent in sq so i prefer to limit the volume on the 282 with the remote .
The automation set-up, where one can control the volume from their Naim pre-amp via the Naim App, has no bearing on sound quality, as far as I can tell.
