Because I want to use the search function in the app I’m checking to move from NAS to USB. When using the USB I only see the metadata for Artist, Album and Genre but no data i.e. for Composer. Server option on or off does not make a change.
Yes, metadata fields in Naim servers are limited. However, if the Composer snd Conductor fields have metadata in the file it should be visible in the Naim app.
Are you looking in the Server input under Local Music? Not the USB input where you only see folders.
Yes, I’m looking in the server input. First I loaded all my music, now I just loaded 2 albums, but the same result, no composer or condutor data. Maybe it does not work, because the NAS data in the app does not show composer and conductor as a field at all.
Yes I did and also no composer and conductor data as well. But also the fields are not there. On the local server fields are there but no data in it. There are plenty of files have these metadata. Do you see this metadata on your local server?
Yes, if I view a USB drive in the Server input I see these views. Both composer and conductor tags are visible. These are from either Unitiserve CD rips or purchased downloads.
Strange, if you’re sure that the metadata is there I can’t see why it shouldn’t be visible. So if you open the music files on a computer you can see that the tags (as opposed to folders) are attached to the relevant track or album?
What is the origin of the files? Are they CD rips or downloads? I’m no expert, but I wonder if there is some sort of metadata compatibility issue.
The files are rips mostly done on Naim HDX to flac and downloads. The HDX showed composers for both rips and downloads, so the files I believe have the correct metadata. Looks to me that the NDX2 does not read them, don’t know why.
I have the same setup - ripped my CDs to FLAC on my HDX, copied them to a USB drive and play them on the server input (front USB) on my NDX2. I see plenty of composers and a couple of conductors (I don’t have a lot of classical).
I can’t see that using the other USB port would make any difference. You mentioned that these fields weren’t visible when the files were stored on a NAS either, so my guess is that there’s something in the metadata that the streamer doesn’t like.
Have you tried examining the metadata? You could look at it using a metadata editor such as Metadatics or MP3tag, or just open the files using a computer and have a look.
- Formatted USB stick ExFat and Fat32 and tried with both options, no result.
- I’m using Tag Editor, tags seem fine. Installed Mp3tag, tags seem fine as well. In file properties all seems okay too. As I mentioned before the HDX showed them all.
- Total reset of the NDX2 and tried all again, still no result.
I will contact my dealer and discuss with him the way forward.
I asked my dealer yesterday, give him a couple of my tracks to check on another Naim streamer. He will also check with Naim support. I will let you know the result.
