Anybody with a TV that is WiFi Direct capable should make sure it is set to off.
If it is on, it could be transmitting on the same channel as the router. In my set-up the WiFi signal from the TV is a lot stronger than the signal from the router, at my streamer location.
Hi Mikey,
It was done that way for a couple of reasons:
The Wi-fi connection between router and RE650 provided complete galvanic isolation of the hi-fi from the rest of the network and the outside World and sounded quite a bit better than an ethernet cable between router and server.
My server was an Innuos Statement, which is optimized for minimal EMI and RFI so doesn’t include a wi-fi connection.
The key therefore is to make sure that the router has enough poke to generate sufficient signal strength at the RE650. I used a tri-band TPLink Archer AC5400 with one 5GHz band dedicated solely to audio. The Innuos OS uses a ‘push’ architecture, buffers all tracks and albums in RAM then shuts down all network activity during music replay. The RE650 had its 2.4GHz band and polling disabled and its only client was the server. Zero network traffic and galvanic isolation is why I preferred the wi-fi link rather than ethernet.
But you can put the Core right next to your router if you want to. You don’t need it near the rest of your hifi, unless you want to connect it directly to a DAC.
