New 500 series on the way?

I noticed the Dutch Naim distributor put their demo 500 DR for sale. Makes me wonder whether a new 500 series is being announced soon :face_with_monocle:

I doubt there will be a new 500 series for at least a year, possibly 2, the shift to white lighting suggests it will be around for a while. I would guess it is just the normal stock rotation of demo kit, especially if it has green logos etc.

Or maybe just turning over demo stock ?

Could be. But they only put items for sale that are not in production anymore such as 282, 250 DR, 200 DR.

This is worth a quick skim

A few responses to that thread in a similar vein to above

At Dan’s factory visit Naim suggested that there was no timescale for a new 500 series and that the current models were still felt to be adequately capable. I’d expect at the very least another 18 months plus before this changes, probably longer…

That’s correct. I got the impression that it wasn’t on the horizon and might be significantly longer. Somebody (Steve Sells or Jason?) mentioned - I think - that a business case would need to be raised in order to progress it.

That is not my experience in the UK. Dealers in the UK and EU countries can (by law) charge whatever price they like for any item, and if they want to drop the price they are free to do so if they want to clear stock that isn’t selling, or for any other reason.

I follow their second hand account already for many years and they usually only have outdated models on there.

The exiting part is if their next amp will be class D. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I doubt a new 500 level amp is around the corner.
Cost/benefit might be too “exiting” for Naim as they already have 350 and Statement, along with old 500 range.

Do people buy such stuff these days ?

The way you quote my post is completely misleading, very rude and doesn’t reflect what I said at all. Please amend your post to show the complete sentence, I have posted it below to remind you.

Anyone buy new 500 series today? Must be very few I think. Their price at least on my market is crazy high. Competition is tough these days.

Not completely correct. In EU you may lower price but you may never sell a new (or stock) item with a loss.

As well as their Snaxo for Kudos

If this is directed at me, I apologize.
For convenience I cut your message to create my own little story.
Thanks for reminder.

My understanding is that demo gear can be put on the market by the dealer after 2 years, at least that is why my dealer said when I bought his kit.

So a dealer putting their stock on the market wouldn’t be unusual and not a sign of something new on the horizon.

Of course I could be totally wrong and a new 500 range is just around the corner.

Really? That seems very over regulated. Surely you should be able to sell something you own at whatever price you like? It’s a free market - or should be.

I don’t think EU have a say about a company selling at loss. Never heard of from many years working close to sales. A manufacturer or importer cannot control the price levels in EU meaning a reseller can sell at any price. However, if you become enemy with the distributor, manufacturer etc they can of course cut you out from getting their products so indirectly they can control you and the pricing.

You have to have in mind that resellers has huge margins on most HIFI products so even if they sell at 30-40 or even 50% off they don’t sell at loss. A business model used a lot these days is to set a high retail price and then give the customer a great deal. Everyone like great deals and feel they have special treatment. Still the retailer has great margins on such a deal…

I’m also pretty sure some retailers sell new unused products as demo units to increase sell through and not risk any agreements…
