I’m posting with the hope that someone can point me in the right direction. For years I used an old iMac for storing purchased music downloads prior to moving them onto my Uniti Core and for the most part there weren’t any issues.
I recently purchased a new Mac Mini Pro and today, when I tried moving files over to the Core’s downloads folder I was hit with repeated error messages (8062). No matter what I tried the error message would show up.
With the previous computer it was as simple as opening two finder windows, one with the Core’s DL folder and the other with the music files. Dragging the files into the Core’s DL folder was simple and worked every time but now with the Mini Pro it won’t work.
The Mini Pro’s disk is formatted to APFS, the music files are held on a Mac USB drive connected to it and are “Journaled” and course the Core is formatted to NTFS. Does anyone have an idea of why these will no longer work in a drag and drop fashion?
I think this was discussed in another thread. With the new MacOS you need to create the albums folders for the Core in Finder, then copy across the files.
As @Mike_S says above. I ran into this exact problem as well. The solution is, rather than to move the folder across, to set up a folder on the core and then move the block of music plus cover art files into the folder you have just created. Hopefully this is indeed just a MacOS bug and will be sorted soon.
I was reading up on SMB but started to think that it might have to do with “permissions”. But yes- with the previous iMac I would create folders for the files, reduce artwork size if needed, perform any necessary naming adjustments and then drag the entire folder across to the Core’s downloads folder via another finder windows. Worked like a charm until now!
So having an identically named folder set up in advance (in the Core) makes all the difference here? Weird. I’ll give it a try today to see what happens.
I’m going to give this a try and will keep searching for an answer as to whether there is some magical setting that needs to be turned on for normal behavior.
I really am not into computers so please don’t treat my advice as coming from some sort of IT expert. A year or two ago I suddenly couldn’t click and drag files onto my core from my windows laptop, although they were on the same network.
For months before this it worked absolutely fine, and as I say suddenly the laptop refused to play ball.
I got round the problem by saving downloaded files onto a USB stick. Then simply plugged the stick into the front of the core and then used the Naim app to download the files onto the core. This method still works for me.
Thanks for the reponse! @Mike_S described this earlier as well and while I’m a little annoyed with this “security feature” the method described seems to allow things to work. I’m pulling files over now with hopes all works out for the best.
Thanks again to all for the help here- I knew this would be the place to go for the correct answer.
No- just posted here. I found the answer above (creating a folder in downloads prior to dragging the files) worked without a hitch. I believe @davidhendon stated that the issue was not related to the Core. @Mike_S and @Osiris provided the answer with an explanation of this quirk being related to some security feature. Thanks for the response!
