I’ve not had any reboot - just checked my DHCP logs and it is stable on for days since it was updated on my ND555. I did not power-down or re-boot - just let the update do all that and I have not actually physically touched the ND555 or its PS since the update, just for information.
Not to say it may at some point go wrong - if it does I’ll report it here. I’m confident there must be problems as I believe the posts here. Naim will fix it I’m sure.
What is different that may eventually cause a re-boot?
Suggestions:
What you are doing with the Streamer:
how long you play how many files or what type?
what services are you using - is this evoked by a cloud-streaming fault or not?
…and probably other things.
I’ve only, rather boringly for some, been playing ripped CDs as WAV format from my Melco - that is it and it has not gone wrong, so that may mean that aspect is OK - or not.
Just saying that any fault may be use-dependent, so perhaps it may help Naim diagnose it (if they have not already) to enumerate what features you use regularly to see if there is anything in common which may be causing the problem.
The firmware is broken Stephen. Yes my cracking was the speakers but I have had all the same symptoms as the others, random reboots, app locking up, slow to connect also it was not as good sounding. Rolled back to 3.4 which itself took e2 times to do properly now no issues at all. Lots of others have had similar issues. Therefore one can saftley deduce that 3.5 firmware has issues.
I just let it update nothing more, don’t play with app nothing just let it get on with it. It gave me more problems than I have ever had with anything.
Here’s a thought, I wonder if all switched off/logged out of any/all music streaming services and just played ripped music etc. Like I say, just a thought…don’t shoot the messenger!
Interestingly after the reboot yesterday 3.5 is sounding very nice. Conscious that I’m running in my Sigs of course, but mid-afternoon everything just clicked into place nicely…and I’m sure there’s more to come as I’ve not run the Sigs that many hours.
There certainly seem to be some odd issues with the new firmware, just saying that Roon has had updates and if someone is using Roon I don’t see streaming glitches are necessarily on the Naim side (they may well be) they could be with Roon or the originator of a streaming service/internet radio feed.
Appreciate that there is a lot of trouble with the nd555s here and I thought I’d gotten away with it on my uniti star. However the silence experienced for 3-6 seconds and then longer started again today whilst streaming tidal. I left it this time rather than giving up (switching off) and experienced a automatic shut down and restart (kernel panic ?). It played for the rest of the day without issue. Just thought I mention this issue with the 3.5 is also affecting units lower down the range.
Hope this gets sorted out for us all pdq.
Fully realizing that I’m not providing a lot of added value towards a possible solution, but anyway at least for the records of the Naim software development group: I just got my third random NDX2/Qobuz reboot since firmware 3.5. Needless to state that this isn’t greatly contributing to the joy and pleasure I used to experience for many years, all before this update. In other words: I would fully support an initial roll-back to version 3.4, and thorough testing before further updates will be released, despite all efforts put into this release, both by Naim and all others involved. Really very grateful for all previous test efforts!
I’m happy to join the test-group … just to enlarge its user-base.
