New firmware update

Still no problems here since the update to 3.5. Sound quality is astonishing.

My Naim was already on the list - it just happened again. I suspect all customer who have installed it on their ND555 must have this, can’t imagine some lucky ones are excluded from this pleasure of havin time to get another cup of coffee while your streamer is rebooting…

I am by the way puzzled how this wouldn’t have been experienced at beta testing…

Sorry to hear that Bert.

As I said previously :
Same hardware + same software = same problem.

Obviously, all NDxxx streamers have the same random reboots problem.

And probably the rest of Naim’s range.

Someone clearly messed things up…

Did they hire some trainees for that software release? :joy:

I know it’s quite worrying that such a big issue would not get picked up. They either are all using the old kit, not testing at all or Naim change the code last minute without testing it.

Saying this it seems to be a month of big firmware cockup. Roon did the same for their operating system for the Nucleus and DIY Rock. It rendered users without a server for shortwhile. They fixed it pretty damned quick though.

It doesn’t. Mine was already set that way and I still had a reset this morning

Does your TV float at half mains voltage? I do wonder of it’s finding a way to earth via the HDMI and the Naim and maybe causing the slight buzz you hear. Things like this can sometimes be an issue with kit that not properly earthed when connected to earthed Naim kit.

Hi @Richard.Dane, I have to be honest that I am not sure what you are asking there. It’s connected with a standard Euro plug.

The thing is the setup and hardware has not changed in almost a year. Never had this before the firmware update. Also I describe it as a zzzzt sound but that is my lack of onomatopoeic skills, sadly.

What I find funny and equal measure horror is that the three things Naim support have recommended to help fix issues for me have a already in place or made it worse. . First one reset Tidal login. I don’t use Tidal in Naim app at all so a non starter. Power off and wait 10 minutes before powering it on. After this system had a complete meltdown and wouldn’t come back or get network. 3rd after I had already said I had reverted back with help from Steve get the email to turn of auto standby which is already used in the way they say to change it and was when I was on 3.5. Sorry but this is a bit of a shambles.

That’s Ok, just a theory I was mulling over aloud. It’s probably something you should mention to support, if you have already done so.

I think that rather than offering these as fixes, they may simply have been preliminary suggestions to rule things out

Hey stranger things have happened, thanks for trying to help.

I have already sent them a mail on the subject.

At this stage randomly suggesting things is not a solution to anything and feels like they are clutching at straws. They should have a firm ideas as to what the actual issue is by now. What grates more is the lack of anything official saying oh sorry we broke it and we are fixing it. It just doesn’t give me much confidence.

I can confirm after some testing. After about a minute the Star loses connection, when reconnecting HDMI I then get the loud static.
Interestingly it does keep working after reconnecting. Like you, it didn’t occur when first switching output.

It doesn’t go to standby before the configured timeout, I was wrong about that.

What do you mean by “it loses connection”?

A quick question for those that have done a factory reset. When you do this does it preserve what firmware version you are on, ie a reset doesn’t force an upgrade?

Reason for the question is that I have just purchased an ex-demo Nova. … I have told the dealer not to update the firmware before he ships it to me, (it is on an older version) but he wants to do a factory reset. In a normal software engineering world this would be fine but given this thread I thought I would check!

That’s not what they’re doing: it’s standard troubleshooting practice. I can understand your frustration but we need to keep things in perspective.

I suppose the good thing is if does the reset he owns it.

A factory reset puts all settings to as they were when it came new out of the box, but keeps the firmware version that is in the unit already. It doesn’t upgrade it to new firmware nor revert it to its original manufactured firmware.
