Thanks David.
I guess that explains it! Now all is clear and it’s my bad.
Having said that, It would seem sensible to me that if it’s in process of updating software, it should show a screen Telling you that this what it’s doing and not to touch anything, rather than ask me to try to find rooms…
I have subsequently rebooted, but I’ll also now do a factory reset.
Cheers,
Kevin
During update, the unit does not reply to the App, so the App does not know the difference.
On the unit screen, there should be naim logos, progress bars (often repeatedly) - just make sure you don’t loose patience too soon and reboot the machine while updating.
Updates often only takes about 5 minutes, but I’d give it 10-15 or longer, when in doubt.
I don’t have one of the new Unitis or streamers, but on the UnitiCore, the app screen that you press install from does explain at some length what will happen. I would be surprised if Naim haven’t replicated that part of the update experience in the other current products?
Best
David
Yes, confirm for Atom/Nova (downtime, multiple reboots can happen, please be patient).
So, I’ve done a factory reset as per instructions in this thread.
It appeared to go to plan with the whole handset pairing process, choose your language etc., but my playlists (compiled from local NAS stored files) are still there …
Does this mean the reset wasn’t completed properly ?
Aren’t the playlists managed by the Naim app, not by the streamers?
That’s right.
Hi Bert,
How’s your ND555 behaving?
Did the 3.5.1 release solve the random reboots issue?
No other funny surprises?
I’m reluctant to update…
So far so good Thomas. Haven’t had reboots and haven’t had issues with Qobuz so far, so having good hope it will be fine…
I’m on a fresh new nd5xs2. Upon initial setup process yesterday I updated to 3.5.1 and all is ok apart from inputs names - these are not correctly displayed in app and mixed up - the same was present before on uniti. But this is rather connected with the app I suppose. When certain input has a longish name it’s superimposed on the next one.
@Thomas
For what it’s worth the 3.5.1 update has been well behaved on my ND555 since it has been available. If you recall I had some issues with SQ on the 3.5 and reverted to 3.4. No SQ issues with 3.5.1. Did reboot, not factory reset, after the update.
All good here, Thomas. I updated to 3.5.1 pretty much as soon as it was available as I was eager to leave 3.5 behind. So that’s 11 days and, so far, it’s been behaving perfectly. FWIW I’m still on the version released in Beta, although I think it’s identical to what was released as the public release.
Hi
I experienced problems with NDX2 previously.
But So far all seems good after one week with the latest update. It’s sounding good, app quick and no reboots or dropouts.
Still too early to say but its feels encouraging.
Previously I have been wedded to playing cds (CDX2.2) but the NDX2 is just great.
I’ve been reading this thread and want to make sure I have this right.
Have ndx2/xpsdr:
Download new firmware
Then unplug xpsdr and also disconnect Ethernet cable from ndx2
Wait 10 min
Then reconnect all and turn back and on.
Correct?
Second question : my ndx2 is new and came with 3.50 firmware and all works well. Should I update to 3.51??
Anyone note any improvement in SQ from this firmware update?
David
No, that was a fix for errors with 3.50. You only need to install the updated firmware and shouldn’t have to do anything else.
Updated my ND555 this morning and rebooted the ND555 (switched off and on).
Then left for my training routine.
No reboots during the day and the ND555 sounds nice this evening.
Worth doing if all working now?
I’d leave it alone if it is working fine and you are enjoying it as it is.
Then watch for more feedback here over the next few days and weeks and decide if and when you want to do it.
I liked 3.5.0 a lot and had no problems with it. I have also now, a few days ago, updated to 3.5.1 and it works fine too - it sounds a bit different IMO and I’m not certain which version I prefer really as both had their things done right but different in SQ and music terms.
The update - I just chose ‘update’ and let it get on with it - took a few minutes where it re-boot itself a few times and obviously loses connection to the App while all that is going on. Do not reconnect with the App until it is completed with update - shows ‘start’ screen on the unit. I did not do any Factory reset - in fact I never even touched the ND555.
I never had a random re-boot with 3.5.0, with 3.5.1 I have noticed it had done one after two days while I was not using it.
It is a different sound I’m finding - it took a few days for it to ‘settle’ here and it is now growing more on me.
DB.
The old adage is, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
My NDX2 didn’t have the random reboot issue, so it is staying on 3.5.0.
I have had a screen freeze and play queue freeze after using air play in the last two days. So many issues with this software.
@StoogeMoe: Which suggests that 3.5.0 is in fact broken. Otherwise you would not have experienced screen freezes, would you? I would upgrade to 3.5.1 given that 3.5.1 corrects errors that were present in 3.5.0.
