During the early stages of the product development, the intention must have been to make the screens a key part of the user interface; possibly even the primary method for interacting with the product. But then some difficulties were encountered, and the original plans were abandoned. It makes so little sense for allowing radio stations to be browsed and selected using the screen and the remote, but not an attached drive. The rather cumbersome ‘Presets’ feature that was recently introduced seems to be a half-hearted stab at making the devices less dependent on the app. But given that the app is needed to create Presets in the first place, one has to suspect that the screens are just an ‘appendix’; they cannot be removed and remain an embarrassing reminder of a failed UI project.
I hope it’s not a problem with the screen itself. Most have a microcontroller on them that you communicate with over a serial bus. It’s possible for that microcontroller to hang and no longer communicate with the Naim hardware, causing the freeze. Naim would have to replace all the faulty ones they sold under warranty. And cost me down time!
I have a Muso 2. I use the Daphile OS (Logitech Media Center) running on a small mini computer, with a UPnP bridge plugin installed and I have a choice of controllers. Lately I have been using something called Material Skin. Works perfectly. Other popular controler software apps are Orange Squeeze and iPeng (Apple).
I do not use Apple products but my wife has an iPad mini. It seems to work quite well to me … why do you use an iPad if you do not like it? For taking notes and for reading books and papers there are better alternatives. For controlling my music system and occasionally browsing the news, I find an old Android mobile phone to be more than enough …
My Nova was behaving very poorly the other night. Sound went out of sync from the TV, powered off and on, then no sound, repeated twice without success and then pulled the pug and rebooted and it worked.
It’s the same using anything it’s not the control software.
It’s not it happens across the whole range.
My Atom had a problem playing hi res files late last week but I’ve been running the new beta software and it’s not put a foot wrong since. Hopefully help is on the way.
That’s often more fun than watching TV.
Yes i think you could be right here. Thanks. I have now activated the screen to be on and all seems ok now. Phew.
I think i’m just one those people that cannot get the hang of using a touch screen. I just don’t have the feel for it, i find it over sensitive and infuriating. It would be great if i could use a mouse in some way instead, which i find a doddle to use.
One word: ROON. Then you can control your music from a laptop, desktop, tablet, phone etc. of Mac, PC, iOS, or Android orgin. I esp like using my desktop in the office because then I don’t have to have a tablet or phone open as well, and my MacBook in the living room as I can also get work done (imo iPad great for watching videos and some web surfing but that’s about it - even typing this post would be just so much more work). This thread has also definitely cemented why I never went with Naim streamers, and haven’t opened the app except for Mu-so updates in over four years.

I very much sympathize with your aversion to touch screens, cannot you use a mouse with the iPad? Perhaps a bluetooth mouse? My main input devices are the keyboard and the thinkpad trackpoint, I hardly use a mouse …
One word: ROON
I also think that’s a solution. Certainly solved my woes. Only two negatives:
- It costs more money
- The roon app is completely inaccessible if you want standard keyboard navigation or use a screen reader.
And some folks just don’t like Roon.
cannot you use a mouse with the iPad?
I was about to post “of course not” but thought I’d better to check first. And, guess what, it turns out that you can from iOS 13 onwards. I tried it out and it works OK, but much better with Magic Mouse 2 than first generation. (The latter doesn’t support scrolling.) Not sure about non-Apple mice. And I wonder about the practicality of using a mouse while sitting in a comfortable chair listening to music.
Still you really do learn something every day!
Roger
Apparently it does work with non-Apple mice too. You just need to buy the necessary reassuringly expensive Apple adaptors so you can plug the mouse in.

I do have Asset UPnP Control (dBpoweramp) downloaded onto my laptop where i can control all of my local music via Windows. Works a treat.
What, you’ve got a touchscreen on your ndx2? Bugger, I’m on the 'phone to my dealer to find out why mine is not working. I press and press, but bugger all happens.
You’ll be telling me next your xpsdr has a touch screen!
You can also go to http://yourstreamer/webclient
(yourstreamer being the IP address of the ndx2, or the name that you can configure in the router)
