New from Naim – Solstice Special Edition turntable

Hi HH,
it’s really straightforward, just like @Richard.Dane said. You set the scale to zero without weight, using the zero pot. With the calibration weight, you use the gain pot to meet the second calibration point.

While you are the mood to spend money, try to get a pair of step-up transformers to go between your cartridge and the SN3 phono input. It just feels right to listen to records through a properly named input :grinning:

I found the cheapie one from Amazon to be essentially as accurate as the Rega-brand gauge that I spent a LOT more on.

Bought the Rega too. An absolute indulgence when something a 3rd of the price would’ve done the job. But it was Christmas and needed to buy me a present :gift::grinning:

I have the Analogue Studio Digital Stylus Guage. £80ish. A rebadged brand, but it appears to be the same device as the Ortofon guage for a bit less money. It does a good job and seems to me a step up from the many branded smaller devices which all seem to the same design under varying brands, but I suspect are all sourced from the same source. I had one of those a while back, but it was always about 10-15% out when referenced to the Ortofon/Roksan mechanical see/saw guage (which btw, whilst a bit fiddly is very accurate!)

I tried 2 different, different design, the second with 0,001 accuracy. Both gave the same indication( 1,72 g). The first costed 20 euros, the second 40.

I’ve got the rather excellent Rega Aria, so that ship has sailed, and it’s not something I even thought of. I can’t say I’m keen on pressing AV to listen to records but c’est la vie. It’s a shame it’s not easier to swap the buttons.

I’m with you. I hate tinkering with my hifi. I want to be done with it and enjoy music.

Always been dubious of how accurate the small weights are that come with the digital scales. Very much doubt they are accurate to 0.1g as there’s no sign of material being removed on mine.

Haven’t got round to checking mine against a known weight yet.

Anyone understand Russian…?

Is it the screw I’ve highlighted?

No that’s the Azimuth

It’s this one

This is the boat level that I use to set the VTA . First pic shows how to make sure the level’s edge runs parallel to the arm tube

Then next pic has the camera where I sight the top edges

The screw you highlighted is for Azimuth and I use this to set

I’ll look but it’s easier to just ask. Does it come with a screwdriver to use on that one? If not I’m sure it’s just a standard size.

For anti skate I use an LP with a blank side ( without grooves). I believe that there are a few you tube videos showing how to do this. But basically to counter the inertia the cartridge should stay in position in the centre of the LP when the LP is pinning. The initial anti skate knurled screws position was out.
