New from Naim – Solstice Special Edition turntable

The point is the equal distortion in both channels, at whatever level you can hear it. If there’s no distortion at all you can’t say it’s equal.

My point was that if you’re getting distortion on the first three tracks the cartridge certainly doesn’t track well.

I run an SPU and a Decca, I don’t expect miracles.

Now I can sleep in peace,
The lid actually surrounds the glass and is placed directly on the wooden shelf.
Not a big project…really, I planned it myself and it cost me about a fifth compared to other hi end brand…
For me, the goal was definitely achieved.
Hope I contributed my share…

Did you make this Cover yourself…? Impressive.

Interesting.
The positioning of the test bands on the surface of the LP suggests that the result will not be at either of the null points…and is therefore not the best compromise.

Thanks to a professional that specializes in cutting acrylic surfaces…

Still a fine result. A great team effort…

Please note, care should be taken when placing and removing the lid…it is big …

Are the null points really the best place? I’ve had cantilevers acquire an offset from both under biasing and over biasing when I’ve used other methods but never when using that test band. With the Aro and it’s limited choice it was possible to hear which notch sounded best, and it was the last from the end with both the Proteus at 2.95g and DV17D3 at 1.95g, with a London Decca Maroon it’s the nearest to the cup judging by ear with a VTF of 1.64, the test track agrees but as I’m using a Townshend trough I’m not sure it’s much of a test in this case.

For me, the best method is:
Blank LP side, find the ‘arm remains static’ at best guess of null point → use ears to find best averaged setting accross LP side … and accept that no matter what method is used, the value is not optimal accross the whole side.

It would be kinda poetic if somebody took delivery of a Solstice today wouldn’t it? Anyone?

I am one of those. I think I’ll wait until 2022, only 1 has arrived in Italy.
