New from Naim – Solstice Special Edition turntable

Merry Christmas and Happy Everything! I have a big, empty space under my tree with hopes I wake up Christmas morning to a surprise SSE. If anyone can do it, Santa can :christmas_tree:

Heard one at my dealer today. It sounds really very good, very musical and an excellent piece of kit, but I couldn’t live with one. The platter is too big and the plinth too small. It sits in the corner of my vision and I just want to squash the platter.

I was at my local NAIM/Linn dealer yesterday. They had a Solstice. To those who say that the Solstice looks better “in the flesh”, I can only disagree. In my view, that platter is a monstrosity. The custom painted LP12 they had on display was much better looking, in my opinion. Incredible how that LP12 design has stood the test of time.

I have seen people say that it looks better in real life than in pictures. It didn’t look better or worse, the proportions of platter to plinth just trigger me.
My regular dealer had photographs of the SME special edition something on their FaceBook feed. The SME looks much better in real life, the metal finish clearly didn’t photograph well - so pictures and real life are different.

The SSE is apparently now available as a twin deck option with integrated record storage and drying compartments. Excellent WAF too!

And lids for the cat to sleep on.

I was just wondering if @MattCray has taken delivery of his Solstice yet? He seems to have gone a bit quiet, which might indicate that he has and can’t tear himself away long enough to post anything on here. Or maybe he’s had a visit from the mob and has been silenced!

To my eyes, the Solstice is just too big. Fugly, even.

(Not that that should put anyone else off.)

I have had a Technics gauge for ages, which I treasure.

I couldn’t 'find any for sale when I looked recently to secure a back up, but I see that HH has managed to find one.

So I’ll keep looking.

Look at his profile!!!

It would be nice to read his thoughts of it, having been taken through the anguish of his wait.

Or he might have repurchased a LP12  and got peeves off with the wait :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

He’s waiting for his cat to get in the best position for the photographs!

I bought mine on Ebay, Graham - there were two listed I think. Not sure where HH bought his but think the same place.
A case of save the search and wait, I’m sure one will turn up eventually :crossed_fingers:
